where do I change the default so the tool number matches the tool lenght.

control def, tool, select add to tool, and input 0 for diam and 0 for height.

I entered 0 for both and still got 31 for tool 1

and 32 for tool 2

Older Fanuc controllers dont have a Diameter and Length offset for each tool as the same number.

 

I add 20 to my Diameter offsets on the older machines. So I would have Tool 1 H1 D21,Tool 2 H2 D22 and so on

If you want Tool number to equal Length and Diameter set Add 0 to length and 0 to diameter.

Or set offsets to Tool not to Add

I set the default to "offsets from tool" and it still comes out 31 for tool 1.

not at all. mine works fine. has to be in the post or cd.

If your defaults are set to "from tool" perhaps your

tool is saved that way.

Please refer to my reply to your other post here as my explanation of global versus local copies of machine and control defs applies here as well - with one additional point. If you edit the global copy of a control definition, it is not going to effect the local copy in any existing machine groups as they are still a snapshot in time (which happened before your changes). Changes made to global copies can only effect machine groups made in the future.

In V9, if you had the diameter add 40 (system default) or whatever and realized later that you didn't want it, you could change it to zero (or from tool), but it didn't update it immediately. It was still kinda "locked in." If you reselect the tool, it corrected the diameter.
