FANUC -pronunciation

I know goofy ? but i have heard so many people pronounce it different ways. whats the right one

Most around here seem to say fuh-nook. I've heard fan-uck. I prefer the first version.

From the first time that I heard it up until about 5-6 years ago, it was "fa-nook." Then a shop teacher told me that he heard from some "higher ups" that is was "fa-nek." I prefer fa-nook, just because I'm used to it. Kinda like Bullines is still "Bully-ness."

 

If you really want to know, give them a call and see how they answer the phone. Or talk to someone at a tool show.

 

For years, we called it Dap-ra Cutting Tools. At IMTS one year, the rep corrected me. It's really Dape-ra.

In university, our robotics lab had a bunch of Fanuc robots and everyone pronounced it "fan-ek". When I joined In-House Solutions, everybody pronounced it "fuh-nook". There was a WAV file floating around from Fanuc's web site with the "fan-ek" pronunciation but I can't find it. Maybe Archive.org.

I spent 2 weeks in Fanuc's school in Japan a few years back. It is Fan Uck

I actually learned what Fanuc stands for

On the molding floor all of the presses have Fan-eck controls. In the mold shop here they are fa-nook. In the model shop next door they are FA-DAL, the poor xxxx.

I taught basic G-Code classes for Fanuc when they had a training facility in Chicago. The full name they used was GE Fanuc (pronounced fan-ik) Automation.

And if it is FA-NOOK their phone number would be 1-888 FA NOOK US .... and I personally don't want to get FA-NOOK'D by anyone.

 

When I was at IMTS I asked the guys and there in the FANUC booth and they said FAN-IK.

Fa-nik is how I hear the employees say the pronunciation. So my guess is that they know how to pronounce the name of their own company

In the southern states we say Fu-Nook. Go to the mid-east U.S. and they say Faaaaaaa-nuk and make fun of you for saying Fu-Nook.
