Jim

To use SW Direct you launch it from inside SolidWorks.

In SW go to Tool/AddIns and turn it on.

Once you do that you should see SW Direct

added to the toolbar at the top of the screen.

You can also open SW files by clicking

Files/Open and choosing *.sldprt from the

fyile type drop down

Jim,

There is a problem (in Mastercam X, X SP1, and X MR1/SP2) where if you've got 'Hide extensions of known file types' turned on, clicking on a SolidWorks file thinks that the file name ends in .SLD, not .SLDPRT. When you click on a SolidWorks file, make sure that the extension is correct. This has been corrected for MR2.

This only pertains to File/Open within Mastercam. You should still be able to pass the SLDPRT from SolidWorks to Mastercam via MCDirect.

Mastercam Direct is giving me all kinds of errors.

Not sure if it's an MC prob or a SW problem.

Unknown error opening a sldprt file,

Then I get a Boolean remove erroer and an incomplete file. Strange happenings.

Better off using a parsolid for the time being me thinks.

I changed it so it shows the extension, now I can get them.

I do like the MC direct though where you get the entire tree along with it. Nice if you have to go back in and modify anything.

I think it has to do with how so of the feature are created. I have not used MC direct with SW2006 and MCX. But even with SW2005 and MC9 I would get error on any file that I use Mirror 3D feature on. I think the hole wizard did it a few times but it work most of the time. If I get error I just parasolid it. Not worth the risk of messing you up mid operation and having to start over. If the Convertion does not give any error your good to go.
