Facets on 3d surfaces

I'm running MX2 MR1 and it seems like no matter what I put for my total tolerance the surfaces don't appear to be smooth. I'm using a pocket rough toolpath and a constant scallop toolpath for finishing. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Also at times because of the model you may be tightening your tolerance when you should be loosening up a little, if its .0002 you will be defining the facets, if you open it up to .001 or .0015 it may be better, it rounds things a little more. Whats it look like in verify, do you see the facets there?

We had a similar problem. There is a setting in the machine definitions (and maybe the post) for tolerance. Ours was set to .0005 (inch) but we changed it to .0002 and the toolpaths came out much smoother and the facets were gone. On the down side the NC files were bigger.

I'm on vacation this week so I can't tell you the exactly where the settings are. But check the Machine definitions and look for toolpath tolerances.

Did you figure it out?

BTW the setting that I mentioned was in the Control Definition, Tolerances (Mill), NC precision andor Chordal deviation.

I'm pretty sure my setting for the "Choral deviation (used in post)" was set to .0005 (inch) and we changed it to .0002 - this really helped with the facets.
