I am in need of some opions. I currently have a operator running and setting up various cnc mills, I was wonder what everybody does for time sheets? I would like to know so I can get the pencil pushers of my a**. I use to put the time start and stop on the job it was cutting but now they want set up time, program time, cut time and clean time and down time to me it seem more time will be spent writing this out and watching the clock. Any suggestions would be great. We don't run production jobs so they are all 1 offs.

Go to a ERP system and have it do all of this for you. You clock in and out of each operation. We use Job boss and every operation has a place on the traveler. The person logging in puts set-up, or production with pieces completed, then we have misc, maintenance, and clean to clock in and out of and they can charge it to a job or to overhead as instructed by the shop foreman. I am lucky since I am in and out all day long I am not required to track my time. 99% of the time when I sit down to start a project I never finish it without having to do something else. If I had to log in and out everytime I got up and sat down some day that would be a 50 times. Using a systems.

Here is some Wiki Links that might help.

ERP System.

MRP System.

After the first few times of tracking a task, you'll begin to have a standard task time. Sort of the same deal as automotive mechanics. They have set times for just about type of task. With that said, you develop your standard, then your pencil pushers can just add the activities in into all jobs that require it.
