X3 and Solidworks

What version of Solidworks does X3 work with when trying to import the entire solids history? We are using Solidworks 2006 SP3 here.

 

When I tried to import the history, X3 bombed. Said connected to solidworks at the bottom when it bombed.

I believe you need SW 2008 but not positive.

I have SW 2008 but haven't tried importing solids yet. I'm sure one of the gurus around here will give you a better answer.

With an older release of Solidworks, you might try using Solidworks Direct and then open the SBF file in Mastercam. Just a thought as I'm not sure either how far back it can go. I have SW- 2008 installed and it works.

We recently received another complaint about it not working with SW2006 - and most likely earlier releases.

We'll look into it.

Update, since I just came across this post, and actually send the same question to [email protected] yesterday. Here is the response.

Yes you have to have a current version of SW to view the solids history tree. We will be putting out a patch to support SW 2009 as well as a fix where if we detect an older version of SW on your system we will most likely make the “view solids history tree” checkbox inactive.

No. What they said is that "To read the history tree" you need 2008.

 

You should still be able to read in 2006 SWorks files.

I am using Solidowrks 07 and I opened a SW fikle in X3 using the open command, then highlighted the file, clicked options and made sure to check "import solid history" and it works fine for me.

when I am trying to import the entire solids history

1 it taking so long , even part is simple.

2 I got all sketches (junk entity) on separate levels each . They (entitys) still associated with the solid model (you can't delete them) ?!

I can imagine what will be if model is more complicate
