X3 & SW 2009

Wondering if there are any problems using X3 and trying to open SW 2009 files ? We're goin to be installing X3 soon and the Eng dept is switching to SW 2009.

I think there is a problem opening 2009SW files in X3.

SW2009 was released after X3 and the SolidWorks file format has changed, so X3 is not able to import SW2009 files.

The upcoming update to X3 will contain support for SW2009 files.

We have to convert SW 2009 files to parasolids xt to open projects in x2 and x3. Hope that update comes out soon.

Strange, I can open SW2009 files in Mastercam X3

I used Mastercam direct in SW2009 and import SW2009 tutorial part into X3. It works just fine. I have not done much more than that. It came to X3 with all solid history.

I export from SW2009 as an X_B file and

they come into X3 without any trouble.

I use that format because you can define a WCS

in SW and controol your SW model's

orientation in Mastercam.

gcode, I have been using your methods, but I started using the WCS inside Mastercam instead for the reason of getting the "feature tree" details inside Mastercam.

Now I still got some issues with "pattern" holes that do not show up in Mastercam, and supposedly that was noted as a bug through [email protected]

This is a bump and old stuff from a few days ago...but when you installed these softwares....which did you install first?

 

X3 or solid works...because I have the 2009 disk here waiting to go in the puter...and some of you have gotten it to work and I'm thinking that maybe one has to go in before the other

Cannot find parasolid in file .....aw shucks I was hoping to get it first shot...have to wait for the patch.

In order for Mastercam to support SW2009 files, a DLL that SW supplies to us (SWDocumentMgr.DLL) has to be registered. The SW2009 version of that DLL is registered with the upcoming Mastercam X3 Maintenance Update install. What can be seen as confusing is that that DLL is also registered when SolidWorks 2009 is installed.

 

To read SW2009 files in X3 without waiting for the X3 update - but only if you've got SW2009 installed - find SWDocumentMgr.DLL (on my computer SW2009 put it in C:Program FilesCommon FilesSolidWorks Shared) and copy it to the “CommonSWorksData” subfolder of the X3 install (remember to save/rename the old version that's already there, just in case)
