Creating curve on all edges

I am trying to make a wireframe out of a solid that I created in X2. I know that you can create curve on all edges and select surfaces. I try to do this straight from the solid and it tells me to select the solid/surface etc but when I try to select the surface nothing happens.

 

Is this a but in MC, a setting I have incorrect, or is it just the way it is?

Try these steps...create, surface, create surface from solid

That is what I am doing now. I would like to go straight from the solid to a wire frame without making surfaces.

You also need to select the little solids icon

from your toolbar

An advantage of using the solid if there are multiple faces over using surfaces is not getting duplicate curves on the edges

This. I always forget to turn on solid select and click like mad to get a solid

in X MR2, I could create a curve on an edge and the curve would be a single spline chain,

 

but when doing the same thing in X3, it makes small sections and doesn't close the curve

 

am I missing a setting in X3 that will do the same

break angle doesn't fix the problem

 

any ideas?
