How many of you draw your tools out?

I do this on some occasions where I draw out the Tool and the holder to make sure it will not crash in Verify. Just thinking be really cool if we could see everything in Verify correctly without having to always draw all this stuff out. Anybody know what others software does when verifying a part internally. I know Pro-E and UG both have Vericut as part of the package, but I am talking about something inside the software, not a 2nd party solution.

All the tools in our "production" machines have been created with tool holder and machine head profile. I have created a library as we have been adding tools to the machines.

So I draw the tool profile and merge in the desired toolholder, like 4" gage-length ER25 Holder, the head profile for our Matsuura/Kiwa/Haas/Kitamura are drawn in different colors, so I just can delete the not-desired head profiles.

I have the head on our Horizontals rapid within .015" of the tombstone in some programs. Only scary the 1st time around. I defiantly think it is worth spending the time upfront.

I know that in SmartCam you can create any shape tool want. You simply open a new file and then sketch the profile of the tool, and holder too if you want, and save it. Then open your part file go the tool planner (manager) and there is box for the filename of the custom tool, fill it in and that's it. The only other thing you have to remember is where you store your tool files. I have a folder called CUSTOOLS (custom tools) and I keep all of them in the same folder.

I've got a library of a couple of hundred tools drawn up including the tool holder ans several inches of the quill for our horizontal boring mills.

They are kept on the network and are avaialable

to all useres in the plant.

Once the machine definitions have their tool libraries defined as the proper network drive

they work just like any other tool.

My only complaint is they are all "undefined"

which makes sorting and searching through then a chore.
