change colors

OK gentlemen, let's see if you can help out a fellow Mastercammer.

All I'm trying to do is change the color's of some entities...

I first right click on system colors (bottom of my screen, then I highlight the entities to change, click on the green circle(end selection)

and nothing...no colors dialog box?.

This doesn't happen all the time but enough times that it's starting to annoy me. curse.gif

Anyone else experiencing this?

Dan

If youy've been doing a lot of translating or rotating geomemtry this can happen..

Moving geomerty between layers will fail too.

You can try 2 things..

first try the Regenerate Display List

(the icon is the paintbrush on an orange background)

if that doesn't work.. try ramsaver.

(which probably won't help)

3rd.. save your file.. close Mastercam

and open it back up.. that will fix it.

edit.. I see John has beat me to it biggrin.gif

A couple more thoughts Dan -

1 - the entity attribute manager trumps all kinds of settings if it's active (click the attribute button on the status bar to check)

Even if you don't use it opening someone else's file that has it active may mess you up.

2 - If you have color issues with shading

check the shade settings. Shading can use entity color or a material's properties (like chrome or dull plastic)

This issue is caused by a memory leak.

Transforming and rotating enities

use large amounts of ram.. and

you don't get it all back.

After a certain amount of transforming

and rotating you loose the abilIty to

change colors and layers..

You go through all the proper steps

but nothing happens.

Carried to extremes, you also loose

the abilty to even select entities.

The "Regenerate Display List" command

will normaly fix this, but sometimes

its neccessary to resart Mastercam

I have my undo buffer set to 10 meg.

It helps but does not prevent the problem.

High end video cards can delay but not prevent

the problem.

I've noticed it since X3, but it seems to

be a little better in X4.
