Iges viewer

We are looking for an iges viewer that our customers can use to view our proposals on their own computers. Does anyone know of a free or cheap one. Would probably need dynamic rotation capabilities.

Are you exporting from?????????,Pro desktop is a good veiwer and its free.I believe the website is www.ptc.com Its a pro-e product.

Hey, Andy. I have considered using the Mastercam Demo as a viewer for my customers, but I'm concerned that it is a lot of unneccessary program to install for just one function. Plus, with all of the additional functions, CAD-illiterate customers may get overloaded. Perhaps even worse, they might play around with it just enough to think they know more than I do.

Mark, if that is a concern, just have them install 'Design' only. One of the nice things is no translation is necessary. And they see exactly what you see. I'm doing this with our Chicago office now.

MOLD100 I tested the Pro-E desktop and it does not support igs files only pre_e file.

I tried the pro-e lite and CadCam is correct.

BerTau, I think you have the best solution.

SpinFire is good . But I think it is evaluation version.

Another is Powershape . Rhino does it good too.

What I use is called pro desktop express 2001,it imports prt,step,dxf,iges files,although I tried it out

and it wouldnt correctly read a mastercam exported iges,it worked with a vx exported iges.Sorry for the misleading info.

Andy, I'll probably try the Design demo. That should work okay, though it still seems like more program than it needs to be for this application.

We just tried out a viewer from Cimatron called QuikConcept that we got at the eastec show. It allows you to share a viewing session with anyone else that has the software via internet connection. You can dynamically rotate, pan, zoom, create dynamic sections (you can actually slide a section back and forth in real time), make notations, create drafting, etc.... with the person on the other side of the connection being able to see what you are doing to the model and has a chat box in the corner so you can communicate back and forth. You should be able to find a free 30 session trial version on their web page I think. The problem for us is getting the clients to get the software also. Really good idea for a viewing program I think. Makes communicating about visual appearances and differences alot easier.

If you have access to SolidWorks you can create an "e drawing". You can create a self executing file that requires no additional software installation. Works great, I do wish Mastercam would come up with something similar.

Roger you mean like this Part I made a mold for.

 

This was a soldworks file so I could show the mold shop. I made this page for them to veiw it.

 

Oh I for got pick on the part and move your mouse while holding it down.

 

or use the right button on the mouse to zoom.

Excellent Cadcam. I usually used E-drawings instead of 3D instant website because sometimes it is just easier to tell someone your sending them a file as opposed to explaining 3D instant website. In the newest version of E-drawings you can create a file based on a part and not just a drawing file. And you can also do the rotate an zoom like your file. Anyway, either way is a very cool and easy way to let people check out your parts out without having to give them geometry. With e-drawings and 3D instant website you don't have any security issues as opposed to sending a geometry file.

 

I didn't mean to make this into a SolidWorks forum but this is a very cool tool.

Check out AutoVue from Cimmetry.

I use for IGES as well as Native CATIA files. But also does all major CAD formats; Pro-E, UniGraphics, Solidworks etc.. AutoVue

Roger another nice thing for me is that is on my server not solidworks so I am in complet control.
