I think it's people who are on the right url, but who have yet to register, so they don't see anything other than a login/registration prompt.

You have to be a member after about year-1/2 ago when we had a little trouble that shut the site down.

 

So if you are not a regaster user you can not view.

 

this is good, that way they can not get easy access to the FTP without be a member.

You SHOULD have to register in able to look or post.

CNC GURUS turned into a ZOO because not only did they not fix their problem with people not being able to register (software problem)but they let people post there as GUESTS!

Also no-one to moderate the place.

This is what drove me to come to a more civilized place like here.

Well, it's usually civilized anyway. Things get out of hand and within a day or two things are okey dokey again. Basically we're in here to help and be helped as one forum member puts it. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, there's not a person in here I would not sit down and have a beer or soda with.

Personally I like the idea of guest status in order to view our discusssions - only view as opposed to posting; this would only encourage others to want to join the forum - of course the webmaster could float a total on guest logins so as to remain informed.

 

Being a little more tolerant can only lead to a larger membership - I believe it's what the forum sysop envisioned when he started it.

 

I believe we have picked up another three hundred in the last month or so.

I think that viewing should only be for registered members. There would be too many "boot" users out there learning everything they needed if "open" viewing was tolerated.

You can't read without being a Member. As far as I know, the guests are people staring blankly at the login screen.
