hello is it possible to squash 3d shapes using mastercam 8 draft version,thank you for your time

The answer is no, however with Design, you can use a C-Hook called "Squash". This will do what you are looking for.

The reason it will not work in Draft is because Draft does not run "C-Hooks". The products that run C-Hooks are Design, Mill Level 1, Mill Level 2, Mill Level 3, Lathe Level 1, and Wire. Not sure about the Router Product.

I think it is time that squash graduated from being a c-hook to being an internal function. I use it a lot and I wish it would support construction origins. It always uses the Z value from world coordinates.

can you tell me how i can take a step model file and depending on my view mask everything except what i see to make 2-d files for machining.

the files are only one level so i can't mask levels.

Wait...Squash is no longer a c-hook, its on my menu as a function now.

Do you have the Step Translastor to see the files. You can go to anothe level and creat curve all edges then turn off the other layers and go from there.

this can make a diffrence on easy or a little work.

None of the "Entry" level products support c-hooks. So no squash in Draft, Router Entry, Lathe Entry or Mill Entry.

 

TheePres: It's possible to have a c-hook on the menu, but I think it's still just a c-hook and not an embedded feature. Im not in front of a system right now to check it. I would also like top see it as a standard feature.

In your draft version do you have something similar to create-curve ->slice-> by z plane ?~?

My V9 Draft has Squash. In V9 squash is no longer a chook.

 

Draft does not have any Create, Curve commands. (which is a spline/surface command)

 

Draft does have Create Spline.

Glenn is right - "Squash" became a standard Mastercam function in V9 (Draft too!)

In Ver 8 you can 'Xform-Scale XYZ' and accomplish the same thing. I think you just scale X 1, Y 1, Z 0.
