Solid Chaining X7

Having trouble chaining a basic solid part for a 2d dynamic core toolpath. When I go to chain geometry, I used solid chaining, then make sure edges and loops is my active pick, then I chain the outermost, lower most solid edge of the part. But then it gives me a toolpath that cuts away the entire part?

Simple,

solid chaining, don't do it

It is extremely limited except for the most simple geometry.  You will have FAR greater flexibility with wireframe

Thanks JParis,

Yeah I'm starting to realize that working with solids is not quite as easy as the Youtube videos make it look. I was able to figure it out, I had chained the lower edge of the part as the "machining region" and didn't have any "avoidance". Then I looked it up in the MC help and realized I needed to chain the stock as the "machining region" and the lower edge of the part as "avoidance" then it worked

I am wireframe guy and use solid sometimes, but I am extremely picky about my toolpaths as code. Using wireframe just gives me a certain level of control that Solid Edges sometimes just can't accomplish.

I mostly use solids for 2d/3d contour and then set remaining stock to meet my tolerances. I also use them for surface paths a lot, flowline mostly. Most other paths I use the solid to create my surface or check surfaces then do what ever I need to get the surfaces ready for a path. The ability to use the solid is a handy tool but like if you don't use it correctly its like using a hammer for a condom... that's just gonna hurt your head.

Except for many dynamic toolpaths.  Choosing solid faces for machining and avoidance regions is usually pretty easy and efficient, depending on the model of course.  Edge chaining still leaves some to be desired.
