Pushing the limits?

Given a hollow cylinder .628 I.D. and .728 O.D.

I want to mill the letters SUN on the circumference of the cylinder.Any letter style. Using Live tooling and C-axis, on Mazak four axis Lathe.

Any contribution is greatly appreciated.

We use the standard MC9 Box Font on everything. Every part we do gets a part # and logo. I have experienced that the #3 crashes in verify just about everytime(posts fine though) and the dash has a smaller dash inside of it.

Look on the FTP site in the MC9_Files folder for C-AXIS ENGRAVE.MC9. Is that what you are looking for?

Wrap the flat geometry on the cylinder. Less code.

Also set your misc values to use G112/G113 polar coordinates for less code.

Also let the operator run it less work for you.

Try using AXIS SUBSTITUION under the ROTARY AXIS radial button in the TOOL PARAMETER dialog box. Then follow the 'yellow brick' road (fill in the blanks). This way you can use 'flat' geometry in any style of font you want.

I do the same. Why "memorize" the details, when you can print them and put them in a notebook. Then, all you have to do is "remember" where you put the book.

Well code Breaker I have about 10 books at this time with another 5 books just on Machines. I have things from Mil_specs to Vb to Custom programs and fixtures to tool. I personally have a full bookcase of stuff. I started young in writting things down as I learned them and keeping records of Job and things I had seen or liked. Wtih so much going on and doing so much yeah real hard soemtimes to rmemeber what goes where or works where so helps to soemtimes refresh the memeory when trying to do soemthing of the wall but done before.
