Saving across network....XP

I never had this problem with 2000Pro, but now this XPPro box is hanging up when I go to say my .MC9 file across the network. I am using the same .cfg file that I was on the other box, and now it is hanging up. It flash's very rapidly between the cross hairs, and the hour glass while it is just mapping itself to the server drive. Is there setting that I am missing, again I changed nothing between 2000 and XP.

Weird I can save to the local hard drive with no problem. When it comes to the network, no luck. Any idea's, anyone anyone Bueller, Bueller??

I would check my premissions. I have had this trouble with Xp is that you may need to set up a user account for the computer you are now using on each of the computers you connect too.

Ron, I have admin rights. Matter of fact I am the administrator. We have Novel here, and had no problems with 2000Pro. I was wondering if it was an XP thing, or if there was something I needed to reset.

Do all of the computer share the same passwrod for the Adim?

nope, i have one and the Operations Manager has one but its different than mine.

Well I have found in certain places where even though you are the Adim. and you have all the rights is the passwords for each computer is different it cuases some problems. I know that is should not but we are talking about computers and they just do things that make you want ot pull your hair out sometimes.

any other issues connecting to the network? what speed is the lan connected at? I have had similar issues trying to get it to connect and it turned out to be a old cat 5 network cable that wasn't twisted pair...sending a large amount of data over it caused it to fault out...

Iskander ye it is Novel Netware, Darryl, no there arent any error's just times out. Kcollins its twisted pair Cat5.

 

Ron, I have heard of the issues that you speak of, put nothing has been done to the network as of late, except putting two new machines on them. It seems like an MC issue to me, the best I can tell anyway. I can search the server, open my .NC files from the server thru Preditor, but I cant save to the sever thru MC.

Just a wild guess...

If you run CNCReg.exe in the mastercam folder - Under the Registry Settings tab, which File Dialog Box is checked? Mastercam or Standard Windows? Try the Standard Windows and see if that helps.

Mark, standard windows was the default selection in the CNCreg.exe but cool never new about that thing....

I can do a file get, but not a file save to the server drive. This is the strangest damn thing I have ever seen.

We use the RJ45 cable Paul, check your hub speed.

 

Do you have IPX/SPX NetBIOS installed in your network connections? internal network # all 000000

Paul have you tried to save other MC files to the network(nci,pst,ect...)? Did you ask your reseller???? ha ha Give Mike call

Thats funny dude! No I havent tried, but I did just find out that if I use ALT+A it works just fine....now I am finding this funny.

 

So, ALT-A works, but File/save/ does not work...

try this, had the same prob

uncheck "hide file extentions" in widows explorer

re-install mcam

 

now if you open a file across a network it works

esp if u open another in the same folder etc. - strange

I used to get some strange problems trying to save .PRN files out of excell across the Novell network. Win 2K pro on my system. Drag-and-drop worked fine, but it would refuse to save the file if I initiated the save from excell. If I remember right, it was worse if I tried to create a new folder and save across the network all straight out of excell. No help to you, just sharing quirks.

 

We have switched to a Win 2000 network now and all is smooth.

If you are using Windows commander when copying

in copy window you have nice feature :

You can select /deselect

Copy NTFS permissions (may need administrative rights )

 

What you describe ,Harry ,may be related to rights and permissions .
