  1. While some surface machining can be done. an stl file really has no geometric data associated with it. So as an stl, it is for the most part useless unless it is converted into surfaces. Verisurf "might" be able to do this. If you can get surfaces on it, then you "may" be able to get geometry to do some 2D machining. Otherwise, it is a waste of time. If I could get a parasolid instead of the stl, that would be the BEST way to go. Otherwise there is a lot of work involved in the way you're trying to go.
  2. Well, there are those who "can" and those who like to whine. Would you like some cheese with that?

  4. If you contact your dealer, I believe they may be able to get you a copy of it. It is not longer available for D/L from any public site.
  5. Damn James. Why you gotta be hatin' on Mastercam's new Multitasking machine functionality. Others are doing it the hard way, programming IN the software. Mastercam lets you open it up and paste your code right in there. Best thing since sliced bread I'll tell you.
  6. quote: For the guys with 64 bit OS, try installing the 32 bit version of MC, ah, there is NO 64 bit version of MCAM They ARE installing a 32 bit version

  8. "on the fly" updating was removed in X3 because of crashing issues.....
  9. If you're using Vista x64 make sure you right click, install/run as administrator
  10. Man the possibilities "seem" endless with this. It is a great addition but.... You knew there had to be a but. Where is the documentation on it????? The help file is pitiful on it's actual set up, usage and modification. How the heck DO you change or add anything?
  11. NO promises but try downloading the latest HASP drivers from here ftp://ftp.aladdin.com/pub/hasp/new_releas...river_setup.zip
  12. I have 5 applications open now, created a quick path, hit the top of stock button and was taken on to the screen to select the top of the stock Don't see it here
  13. and BTW guys toting gcode verification, unless I am wrong, been known to happen on occasion, there isn't a CAM maker out there offering "true" gcode verification. AFAIK, they offer "simulation" which is different.

  15. quote: I'm not wanting to spend a fortune because this is coming out of my own pocket IMO, then don't consider it. To run Mastercam "well" on a laptop, especially if you're do 3,4 & 5 stuff you need a GOOD laptop. a "good" laptop is NOT cheap.
  16. quote: I was told that within the next couple releases we should have the full blown version and be able to do this all within mastercam Can't get verify to run right and they're going to do full blown simulation? I wonder if that will give the Fatal Error in Verify as often.
  17. Partmaker. CNC, AFAIK, still has nothing to offer in this market.
  18. That is one HELL of of a great job Greg. I am curious, was that done using Mastercam? I can hear some of the old school guys crying how they could do it faster setting it up 20 times
  19. DAMN, I'd like Mastercam to get me a cold beer or three.
  20. Are you doing holes in a row or holes in a row around a part? either wat transform is the tool you will use. it's a matter of if you'll need the rotate option
  21. To use a variable it MUST be decalred before you can use it. I always declare my varaibales at the start
  22. This might be something you have to turn to a VB script on. You can change the directory it looks in for particular file extensions. But changing the default file type asa choice, is I think handled inside the coding of the software. but you can go SCreen > Configure . file tab choose the DWG/DXF file typen and then below set the default directory hth
  23. There seems to be little in between. Shops that run high end equipment and jobs are for the most part busy. Shop that are for lack of a better term, bottom feeding on stuff most shop can do are having a very hard time. Unless of course you managed to find a niche. Medical work seems to be doing well for the most part. It seems like shops are either booked out for 2 years or wondering if they will still be in business in 3 months. Not alot of in-between. JM2C
  24. The smallest threadmill I have seen was for a #4-40 That was in 316SS and not easily done, deflection and tool break was tough, there was only a few thou, between the minor dia and the dia of the tool.
  25. I don't think anyone wants the responsiblilty of a "g" code program. Guy on the floor, if he's any good, should be able to do this easy enough. JM2C
