  1. Yes, we could do that, but the jury is still out on whether or not that would be a good thing.
  2. We can disable the ability to offer a Home Page in the profiles, but this would tend to hurt the people who use the field for its intended use. Remember this is a URL that links off-site. It's really impossible to check every member. We're not respsonible for the content of other sites. All you guys have done is bring visibility to a site that probably had no hits prior to today. 3. There are also 'Member Ratings' option that can be used to rate other members. e.g. if a 5-star Members gives some advice, it's probably good. This option is disabled from use on this board.
  4. quote: Hey Bullines, how close are you guys coming to Banning kuei/sniper's ISP? Have you guys contacted abuse@?????.com regarding this guy? Kuei has the good fortune of sharing an ISP with some good members on this board, so a 100% ISP IP block is not possible. We've done what we can without too much inconvenience to other members. 5. Elad - You're right. There's no perfect way to prevent people from accessing the site. We can however ban email addresses, partial emails, static IPs, and in a serious case, the entire IP block of your service provider. These of course are deterents only. We do require a valid email here. Most ISPs have Acceptable Use and Abuse policies. In the case of a user soliciting pirated software or any other serious infraction, the ISP can be notified to have the account of the problem user frozen or terminated. 6. The board appears to be run by 'kuei' who is one of the few here to have earned a lifetime ban.
  7. I think being between Mastercam jobs is a bit different than using unlicensed software. Consider yourself a student for now and let us know when your situation changes. If you go into exile, it's self-imposed. Remember when Scott Bond was between jobs? http://www.emastercam.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...ic;f=1;t=002655 Things worked out in the end!
  8. The Webby fends off the protests of some other late 70's stars (all well on their way to the "Where are they now?" file), picks up the mallet, walks over and strikes the gong with technique rivaling that of the great John Bonham. Such is often the fate of amateur talent. [ 02-05-2003, 09:11 AM: Message edited by: Webmaster ]
  9. I deleted a thread-gone-bad from the forum this morning. A string of events lead to what must have seemed like a bunch of us ganging up on a new member. Lively debate is healthy, but personal comments or attacks can quickly escalate out of control. These threads ultimately add nothing to our mission of shared product knowledge. On a positive note, I think things have generally turned around since the end of last year. I see less paranoia, and more sincere greetings to new members. I like the trend - let's keep it up. Although our forum takes some cheap shots on the newsgroups for being "censored and moderated", it's happened about 5 times as far as I can remember over the course of 35932 individual posts, which means the guidelines and guidance of senior members have set the tone for a forum where the 'quality to crap' ratio is extremely high. Thanks as always to all for their professionalism and participation.

  11. I'll update our C-Hooks list with your products once they're updated to V9.
  12. There seems to be some interest of late in what we refer to as 'swag' - logo emblazoned promotion materials. Just for fun - perhaps for CNC Software's use - let's put a poll out there to see what items you are interested in. If something doesn't make the poll list, feel from the respond to this thread with your suggestion. So, what Mastercam promotional items would you consider purchasing? 15. The Webby picks up the mallet, and slowly walks to the gong with these thoughts: I'm disappointed with the number of nasty threads that have appeared over the holidays. Not that this topic of this thread is nasty, just how people are treating one another. I'll respond to the concept of readily available free posts. Let me first say that at our company we try to provide 2-Axis lathe and 3/4-Axis mill posts at no charge. We charge for heavy customization, and complex machine tools like 5-Axis mills. This is best balance that we've been able to achieve to both serve customers and earn fair revenue for our services. Some packages end at APT-CL, and rely entirely on 3rd party post processors. It's only natural that the 3rd parties charge for their software and customization services. Do they really care what you paid for the upstream package? CNC Software includes a flexible post engine (MP.DLL) and excellent master posts like Mpfan and Mplfan. Other posts are offered on the install CD, but it may be increasing more difficult to stay on top of every machine tool and control available on the market. Machine tools are getting much more complicated, and the Mastercam product line is broadening. There is no way that CNC Software can be expected to provide everything on an installation CD. Is the reseller then expected to deliver post writing services at no charge? I need to be paid, and few owners will fork out the dough to have someone on staff to provide this work while bringing in no revenue. In fact as machine tools become more complex, I'd argue that you need someone with decent programming skills in addition to their understanding of machinery and control codes. I'll I can say from my experience is that those who are exclusively interested in *saving* money have a tough time paying for posts. Those who are interested in *making* money never seem to have any issues when it comes to paying for a customized post that offers edit-free code. I think users are seeing a shift in the philosophy of post delivery, and some don't like what they are seeing. My point is that I don't see that it can go any other way if the delivery of posts is to done properly. This thread is closed.
  16. An interesting thread - let's keep it open by taking the emotional content down a notch. [ 12-29-2002, 10:30 AM: Message edited by: Webmaster ]
  17. I just closed the related thread. Discussions surrounding competitive packages often turn nasty. mold100, there may be a better place to discuss competitive issues with other resellers. See if your primary reseller will authorize access. [ 12-29-2002, 10:14 AM: Message edited by: Dave Thomson ]
  18. Sounds like a plan Jim. This thread is closed.
  19. What part did you miss? "Buh" or "bye"? This thread is closed.
  20. Q. Does anyone have a post for a [insert machine or control name here]? A. Ask this question as your first message here and you won't necessarily like the responses you receive. Look to your reseller to supply you with the proper post for your machine, or quote for the work that needs to be done. If you have something and are looking for improvements, it's a reasonable request. Maybe tell us why the post you have needs improvement. Perhaps try to participate a bit on the Forum before you go asking for something. Not unlike Habitat for Humanity, we value Sweat Equity here. Quid pro quo, Clarice. You may also want to let everyone know your company name so that your Hotmail or Yahoo email account doesn't give everyone the impression that you aren't a licensed Mastercam user. 21. Q. How to I search the Forum? A. Thanks for asking. You should always take the time to search to see if you question has been previously answered. Search the Industrial Forum using the search link found at the top right corner of each page. Search the entire Forum using the link found at the top right corner of the Forum entry page.
  22. Thanks to Bullines for documenting this issue. Q. Why does my cursor disappear on Mastercam's black background? A. The exact cause of this bug is unknown. However, this behavior has only been known to occur on computers running Windows 9x/ME with the following video chipsets: nVidia GeForce2 MX nVidia GeForce2 MX 200 nVidia GeForce2 MX 400 No problems have been reported with the nVidia GeForce4 MX series of chipsets. nVidia's MX lines are low-end chipsets and are not recommended for advanced 3D applications such as Mastercam. nVidia's other GeForce chipsets, as well as the more expensive Quadro line, is not affected by this bug and is recommended.
  23. Q. How do I change my email address? A. Update Your Profile with the new information. [ 11-26-2002, 12:16 PM: Message edited by: Webmaster ]
  24. Q. How do I change my Member Level, or add an image (Avatar)? A. Member Levels are based on the number of messages you post: 0 - New Member 11 - Member 500 - Senior Member [At 1000 posts, we may even throw some swag your way!!] CNC Software employees and Mastercam Resellers are exempt from the Member Levels and may have their company name displayed rather than a Level. The privilege of having a custom Avatar is granted at 200 posts. This applies to both end users and resellers. Employees of In-House Solutions and CNC Software are the only exceptions, and may have their appropriate company logo displayed as an Avatar. You may send in your max 96 x 96 pixel image to [email protected], along with company name and SIM number to validate your status as a licensed user.
