Let's try to keep the comments in the realm of constructive criticism. If you don't like something, offer a suggestion as to how it could be improved.
To the best of my knowledge, the Help files are intended as quick references. They answer the question, "What does this button do?" - not the question, "Should I be using this button in my particular application?"
The Application Guides that ship with Mastercam are intended to show how to use Masteram in a project context.
I guess it takes an engineer to point out that your trick still shows the positive normal side of every surface that is visibly blocked by others, and should therefore be totally hidden according to proper hidden line removal algorithms. Big grin.

I supposed there is something to be said for clarity.
After almost a month of heavy thought I've figured out that 'HLR' stands for 'hidden line removal'.
I'll assume that some of the new net abbreviations and acronyms are lost on most of us. Here's a helpful list:

This message was edited to remove a stated budget price for the post processor and to remove some voiced concerns that will be resolved outside of this forum.
The audience for this Forum is growing, but is still limited. If you have major concerns regarding Mastercam and/or any related services you should contact your reseller, your distributor (for customers outside the US), or CNC Software directly.

I would suggest that you sell your dot-matrix printer to the Smithsonian, and put the proceeds towards a bubble jet.
Mastercamdealer's problems may have been related to the initial registration email being sent out from an unspecified sender, rather than '[email protected]'. AOL in particular guards against this, assuming that the email is spam.
I believe I've corrected the problem.

I've asked our developer to respsond to this in detail, but 4D Engineering's download page at http://www.4dcadcam.com has the following message:

Troubleshooting! If you have problems in running any of the c-hooks and are getting a message "C-Hook not Found" then backup any version of MFC42.DLL you may have in your MILL7 directory (if the file is there), and install this one instead >>> MFC42.DLL
(right-click the filename with your mouse and choose 'Save Link as...' to save to your hard disk).
--
So the problem is related to the MFC42.dll revision.
Pocket is a 2D toolpath. Although islands can be of different depths than the floor itself, all chained boundaries have to lie in constant Z planes. You can ensure that a chain lies in a Z plane by using the Squash C-Hook to flatten each chain.
Your description of the part makes this sound like a Multisurface Rough Pocket (Level 3) application rather than a Pocket (Level 1) application.
'johns' will be shipped a Mastercam T-Shirt and mouse pad for becoming the first 'Member' of the Forum, having posted over 10 messages.
Thanks to 'johns' for his participation!
Further to the Solids problem in the DWG converter related to the TEMP and TMP Environment Variables, several users have reported a malfunction of the DWG Converter where, upon clicking Read, nothing happens, no dialog displays, and you are re-prompted at the DWG Read/Write/ReadDir/WriteDir menu.
**There is one reported case of a Blue-Screen crash on NT using this fix. Use caution with the following instructions, and consult your company's IT department, or IT consultant before preceeding:
From CNC Software:
W95, W98, WNT, W2000
Reboot in MS-DOS mode
Go to WINDOWSSYSTEM
Rename MSVCRT.DLL --> MSVCRT.OLD
Copy MCAM8MSVCRT.DLL into WINDOWSSYSTEM
Reboot in Windows
Repost from old Mastercam Canada forum in response to a question from 'Ambassador'. The Camaix product is fairly new and has been added to this older post.

Mastercam does not import Raster image formats (bmp,gif,jpeg,tiff,etc.).
Several Raster to Vector converters exist on the market that can read in a Raster format image and produce a DXF file to read into Mastercam:
Camaix Raster to Vector (under Tools on this website)
Adobe Streamline - http://www.adobe.com
Corel TRACE (part of DRAW) - http://www.corel.com
TracTrix Desktop - http://www.trixsystems.com

Configure File Get Dialog
--
To see thumbnails of your Mc8 files in the File Get Dialog box, select Start, Programs, Mastercam 8, CNCReg. Select your Installed Product from the list (MILL8,LATHE8,DESIGN8). Change the File Get Dialog from Standard Windows to Mastercam and click Apply. Read the file “Whats new in Mastercam V8.pdf” for additional information.
The optional V8 DWG Converter will read wireframe entities, as well as imbedded ACIS solids. On some NT systems, solids are not imported into the MC8 model. If this is the case on your system, follow these instructions:
WinNT
Assign TEMP and TMP Environment Variables.
Create a WindowsTemp (WinNTTemp) directory if it does not exist.
Start, Control Panel, System, Environment, User Variables.
Highlight TEMP.
In Value, enter: %windir%temp
Click Set.
Highlight TMP.
In Value, enter: %windir%temp
Click Set.
Start, Run, enter: REGEDIT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, System, CurrentControlSet, Control, Session Manager,
Environment.
Modify PATH to include
;C:Mcam8CommonACADDATA;C:Mcam8CommonACISDATA
If the default post won't stay selected when entering Mastercam v8, follow these steps:
Under Screen-Config-NC Settings, enable "Reset post to default on file/get"
or
Enter the Operation Defaults in the same page and modify the default Job
Setup by right-clicking on the "operations manager" style operations
defaults interface and setting up your values, including the correct default post.

The cause of this problem is shutting down the computer with CNCEDIT still
open.
Sometimes the CNCEDIT will open but will stay minimized and you cannot edit
or send the file. If this happens delete these files:
EDITSIZE.BIN
CNCEFONT.CFG
FILEOPEN.CFG
from the C:Mill72CEDITCFGCFG directory.
Please post the specifics (model number) on the Siemens control.
In general, if your post is 95% there, you are better to have your reseller do some tweaking. An "out-of-the-box" post can at times be further off then what you may have already, due largely to the variations required for operator preference and procedural standards.
