  1. It does not make sense, does it? I am disappointed also.
  2. Simplify is for circles or close to cirlces only. Edit/trim /break many is for all non ciruclar contours.
  3. Same thing happened to me. I had a v7 vintage lathe post. I decided to start with v10 mplfanuc post and modify it to my requirements rather than mess with the old post. It takes some effort but is not too bad.
  4. I had the same problem for weeks. Same exact error messages you mention. I tried 3 different downloads and register cleanups etc etc. Nothing worked. Kept getting those exact error messages. I even got a CD which gave the same errors. Marc (the master MC tech) and I finally got it installed. Here is how. We copied the CD to a folder on the hard drive and installed it from the hardrive. It worked. Who would of known! So if you can get a CD try that. Good luck
  5. Jeff, In math and physics and geometry most graphing work is done in the first quadrant where x and y are positive. If you generate an angle with a line with one end tied to the origin and the other end up and to the right and rotate up in the first quadrant it is a positive angle. So I suppose they wanted all to be positive in the first quadrant for simplicity, hence +30 degrees. etc.
  6. Load it side by side with 9. Then make sure your posts translate to X correctly and verify that they output the nc you need. My lathe post which worked perfect in 9 did not perform well in X and I was told it would take major mods by CNC (I guess it was an old post). I went ahead and used mplfanuc X and edited it to my needs so that I would have a modern post. Took many hours but seems to work good. Migrate your tools and make sure the are correct. Lathe tools translate ok but the coolant will be off on every single tool and you will have to manually turn coolant on one tool at a time. (took me lots of time, lots of tools.) Once all is perfect then use X. You will like it better after you learn it. For me after 7, 8, 9, it was a big learning curve, but you will like it better eventually. And, yes, keep 9 in the shadows in case you get in a pinch. Good luck,
  7. Pete, I think I understand. Simplify will only make circles. Break will not easily make circles. Or wont make a circle period. It make tangent arcs and lines within the chordal tolerance to fit the geom. Andy
  8. Pete, Why would one not use break many for everything? Is Simplify something special for circles only? Andy
  9. Retract .05 Abs Feed plane -1. Abs Top of stock 0 Abs Depth -1. Abs Depth cuts: Max rough steps .25 No check on keep tool down It takes four pass, rapids down to pass 1 feeds pass 1 rapids up to .05 rapid to start rapids down to pass 2 feeds pass 2 etc. till pass 4 Done. I am working in english units and only took 4 passes. But, is this what you are doing?
  10. Ok, I drew the line at z0 and it worked. I will try moving the geom to z-100 and try again
  11. Where are you putting in depth cuts =2 Mine says "Maximum rough cut"?
  12. Now I understand what you are doing. Put a negative value in feed plane, either absolute or incremental. Does that work for you. Andy
  13. I think check the keep tool down in depth cuts, if I understand what you are doing. Then it never goes up to Z0. However I just discovered it still wont rapid down second pass. It wont in 9 either. I think what I used to do was put a fast plunge rate for this case. [ 08-05-2006, 12:45 AM: Message edited by: Andy ]
  14. Roger, That certainly is one solution. I have considered doing that. It would entail navigating and finding that MCX template file every time. However, I would still like to have macros , in general, work in MC and be able to take advantage of their potential power. It may be that they won't support them much in the future.
  15. Thad, I tried it with end point coordinates and it will work only if you check "playback at normal speed" and then it takes forever (that is, the actual data entry speed I typed the coordinates in with.) Try it.
  16. Thad, Yes V10. Yes, I like to start with and draw parallel lines and trim. The best I could do was keymapping and then get the manager also. However, it now turns out that when I create a maco for something as simple as putting a point at the origin when I play it back it puts it relative to the screen and not at the origin.(worthless). Just before playback pan the screen a little and see.
  17. Actually, I want geometry 2 lines at 90 degrees at the origin. Not f9 reference lines.
  18. In 9 I had a button that would put crosshair lines at the origin for the beginning of a drawing session. I used these lines for construction. How do I create a button that runs this macro (I have the macro)?
  19. This kind of stuff is the reason I am still using V9. But I will keep practicing with X. Although I am not able to install MR2 yet. Eventually all will be well I trust.
  20. Andy

    MR2 install

Jim, First install I chose stand alone to overwrite mr1. Same error. Then I uninstalled all MR's and chose stand alone and same error. Then downloaded and tried to install MR2 2 more times: same errors. Andy
  21. Andy

    MR2 install

    No firewall here... ???
  22. Any Ideas? First I uninstalled X Then did the MR2 install. (Download from MC) Here are the errors: error 1350 (data1.cab is corrupted......) error 2350 error 1603 (Fatal error.. windows msi.chm or msdn) I even downloaded MR2 3 times. Same errors. Thanks, Andy
  23. I have a sample male spline in a shaft that we are suppposed to copy. Made in Italy. No blueprint. Need to know which cutter to get and where to get it. OD is 3.130 30 degree pressure angle N (number of teeth) is 36 Length is 5" Metric spline I am sure. Closest English is 12 D.P. Where can I buy a cutter? (Metric or English)
