  1. so long to all the forum members here. I have taken a job in our design/engineering department. This will be quite a change aftrer 22 years of programming and making our tooling. I will help get the new guy started in our programming side. So I will get him to use the forum here. There is alot of information and knowledge available here. Thanks to all that have answered some of my questions.
  2. threept, On cadcams ftp site under unspecified_uploads I copied a file rms_finish.xlt this is a modified version of an excel sheet I did a while back (contour_calc1.xls). Also there is another xls file on the ftp site called chip_thinning.xls. This will give you the theoretical modified feedrates on bullnose or ballnose cutters based on cut depth and desired chip load all based on your selected rpm.
  3. John, I would contact Blum on this issue first. They could tell you the repeatability and accurracy for your probe.
  4. I modified the post so that ccomp is initiated before the first move and cancels after last move. or it will gouge or mark the part, or as Thad said be unpredictable.
  5. Millman, I have seen this in some particular drill cycles What I have done is actually edited the post for the particular drill cycle. Then everytime the post encounters a depth change it will cancel the drill cycle and call out a new drill cycle with the new depth. This makes it real easy for programming, just window all arcs and set the drill depth to incremental with a a value of zero. The post edit takes a bit of time, but it will make your job alot easier. If you would like some more info just e-mail me.
  6. Was the original program written thru mastercam? If not you may have to do a little editing to the code before you can get the reverse post to work. I ran into the same problem on some really old work, figured out where the errors in the old code were. Then all I had to to was a few simple edits and it worked fine.
  7. Why not just verify the top program, save as stl. on the bottom program use a different wcs and verify the stl the way it sits. will work fine if your not in turbo mode.
  8. I got it figured out with a tapered pipe thred mill need to know the tip diameter of the thread mill. the diameter I was given was at 9 threads up on the thread mill. No wonder why it was not working !!!! Thanks for all the input. Toolfab, if I have any more questions I will send you an e-mail
  9. I am trying to get an emuge 1/8-27 npt threadmill to work with mastercams threadmill cycle. I contacted emuge and what they said to do in mastercam does not seem to work. Has anyone else tried this using the threadmill. I used a circle .399 diam. threadmill diam.= .301 -.302 deep 9 cutting threads and .75" taper /ft. (all supplied by emuge) I really do not want to hand write 600 holes with there cycle, lots of cut n paste. mastercam mr0304 mill level 3 all up to the current maintenance updates
  10. mostly all of mine will run 30 - 60 mb. always complex models here
  11. Thanks for the reply, Mankato is in the southern part of Minnesota,(U.S.). I Know the quote for this machine with the 15k spindle is prepped for hookup for thru spindle coolant (213 psi). That is all they offer for this configuration.
  12. Our company is looking into purchasing a new vertical machining center. It looks like it may be the Okuma MC-V4020 with a 15k spindle. I just wanted to know if this would be a good machining center for surfacing molds, and if anyone out there has any opinions to share about this type of machine. It has a standard OSP-E100M control.
  13. MayDay, try this out. this is for a custom cycle in my post. it will cancel the drill cycle when a new z depth is encountered. do not know if this is exactly what you had in mind. this is for a 3 axis post, maybe it will give you an idea of how to get it to work in your 5 axis post. pmisc2_2 #Canned Misc #2 Cycle if z <> prv_z, [ z = initht "G80", *z, e prv_refht_a = c9k prv_refht_i = c9k pmisc2 ] else, [ pdrlcommonb#canned drill cycle common call before pcan1, pbld, pxout, pyout, pzout, prdrlout, feed, strcantext, e pcom_movea # common motion routine after ]
  14. Our company has this policy, it is through out the worldwide corporation. As of now renaming is not going thru all the time. Our corporate I.T. department will not budge on letting zip files thru. If you cannot get your company to let zip files thru, have them set your e-mail to allow a larger file to go out and come in.
  15. rekd has a good point, with your other post about the router.exe error this is probably the culprit
  16. murlin, I looked at the file, try a tighter tolerance on the filter settings. you mentioned before if you turned the filter off it did not gouge. I would try .0003 for filter tol. .0001 for the cut tol.
  17. do not have any problems here, we order aluminum by 4'x6' sheets anywhere between 1/2" thick to 4" thick. either in mic-6, 6061-t651, or 7075-t651 (we saw our own stock to size) we also use up to about 5 different suppliers 1 usually has the stock we need on hand.
  18. Are these 32 mp controllers, if they are this may be the case I would suspest on the 3016 that the computer is an old 133mhz or slower processor and the 6030 is about twice the computer if not more. If thats not it check the baud rates of the fadal memory manager software on sending programs on each machine.
  19. I looked at a couple of or engineers computers and xp does look like an animated cartoon! I will remember to set it up in windows classic view. thanks for the replies.
  20. In our company we are going to go to a windows xp pro environment world wide. Right now we are running windows 2000 service pack 4. We will not have a choice but to go to xp pro any comments or problems with xp and mastercam or quirks in the operating system. thanks to all that reply.
  21. Jim, what I did was to go and create the following in the post I use pfeed if feed = 0, feed = 20. feed, e then everywhere in the post where feed is encountered direct it to pfeed. The post I use I wrote just for the type of machining we do here, so the post change may not be quite the same
  22. if you are using the highfeed in mastercam only on FINISH TOOLS, it will output "F0." alot. (logged bug) to over come this a post modification is required until the bug is fixed. also the set up sheet needs to be modified to get correct run times, due to the "F0."
  23. I do not know what can be changed in backplot, but you could use the mill.set for runtimes. that can be customized based upon your machine. right now on our equipment I know we only get about 90% out of our feedrates(because of look ahead etc.) so you can modify the mill.set to reflect this. this will help in getting a more accurate time
  24. In Ideas, the parasolid converter is not in the export area. it is in the file menu under interoperate. but to convert the file must be checked in the library. The default setting is for unigraphics, you must change to parasolid
