  1. On the FTP site in the MC9 folder is a file(OPPIZSURF) I put up a few month ago. I'm programming this part again and its kicking my butt. The problem is the flat end surfaces of the cavity. They are getting gouged when I run surf fin parallel. also when I run smaller tooling .25 ball and .125 ball in leftover I get chatter. Can anyone can steer my in the right direction? As you can tell, I'm fairly new to cutting surfaces.
  2. Rstuart, Where are you working now?
  3. I'm in the process of adding on to my house. I've been playing around with drawing up my plans using MC. So far I've just drawn an image for visualization purposes.Would like to take it a step further. Have any of you done this? Any help on this would be appreciated? Anything on the FTP I can look at?
  4. The first time I met my father-in-law (who happens to be a preacher) I has petting their beagle that must of really like me because the dog processed to hump my leg. It made the conversation a little awkward.
  5. What are you looking for?

    MC art??

quote: Have you checked the mastercam newsletter. Yes, Thats what sparked my interest. Some of that stuff could really be cool to use on our products. Now we are using Type 3 software fot this kind of machining. I think anything from MC would work better than that.
  7. Just wondering how's Mastercam Art coming along. Any Beta users? Is going to be released soon Looks like something I could use.
  8. we are looking to buy another seat of Virtual Dmis to load on my PC so that I can program the CMM externally. I'm hoping I can get something like Verisurf that can be ran in MC. You all are right, CMM software is like a step back in time.
  9. I have IMS impact machine with Virtual Dmis software. The reason I'm inquiring about this is they recently asked me to program it. I though it would be great to use MC to do this.
  10. There have been quite a few discussions about programming CMM's on Mastercam using Verisurf. Anyone doing this? Does it output Dmis code?
  11. I'm converting Inv. 9 with no problems yet, but I have a seat of inventor loaded on my PC.
  12. I have a Mitsubishi Wire & sinker, I think their controls are great, very powerful. I hope you have the same luck with their control on a lathe.
  13. quote: Here we program the part and put a comp equal to the radius of the tool. That makes it a lot more easy for the machinist to check if everything is good prior to machining and it is very easy to change the tool diameter on the machine without the programmer having to redo the PGM. This how I used to do it. I found that it's so easy to redo a program in MC, that if tool dia needs changed I do it MC. This save that annoying tool radius error.
  14. The past 2 days I sat in a class on draw dies. I feel this was very informative. The instructor was great. I highly recommend this guy (Art Hedrick) to anyone who works on or builds stamping and draw dies. Link to class: http://www.dieology.com/
  15. quote: I just realized what oppiz stands for!! ZIPPO backwards Gee, Arn't we observant! Probably thought oppiz was a foreign last name.
  16. We've been fighting this for years!! Some people even have sent these lighters to our repair dept. for warranty repair. Junk!
  17. quote: So you're saying you can't create a REAL point in Inventor that will import into Mastercam??? I'm not a Inventor expert just, I know the basics. this what a designer told me. " the only way you can place a point in Inventor on something like this is using work point." Maybe he's wrong???
  18. Take a look at the file called EDMpoints on the FTP in th MC9 folder. I created the points in Mc. As you will see it would be impossible to extrude a hole because theres no material to extrude.
  19. Keep in mind, as I said before, these are start holes for the wire EDM. They are located inside a die cavity. In other words when the part is completed the holes will no longer exist. The wire starts at these holes the burns out the cavity. The holes are in the scrap slug. Yes, I can put these points in myself with MC, but sometimes there maybe several holes. These points exist in Inventor, they just wont translate in MC. I'm just trying to make life a little less redundant.
  20. quote: This should bring in any points, arc, lines, splines or solids you created in Inventor Not work points. The points I'm trying to convert are "phantom" points that will be drilled out for a start point for wire EDM. These points are called out on the drawing so when the part is machined on the mill then wired, I can program both machines consistently. In Inventor these points are place inside a die cavity as a "work point" because they have no physical property. They are in space.
  21. I'm trying to bring "work points" into MC that are drawn in Inventor. These points are for Wire EDM start holes of a die cavity. Is there something I can do MC to bring these in or is there something that could done different in Inventor.
  22. Travis, NC Polaris was a good idea but it seemed to me like it never was finished. It was nice to learn on because I already knew Autocad. What stunk was when you had to apply the machining. Glad I made the switch to MC!!
  23. Smartcam-quit using because of lack of support and file coversion wasn't keeping up. NC polaris- Started using because it ran in Autocad which is what our designers used. Quit using it because it wasn't very user friendly. Seemed like a step backwards from Smartcam. Has anyone here ever used NC Polaris?
