Jeff,
Open it in Notepad.
Wordpad is a word processor (like MS Word) that adds it's own formatting junk in the file, like the symbols that you're seeing here. Notepad doesn't do that.
If you're able to share the file, someone here at the forum may be willing to open it and convert it to step, parasolid, whatever for you as a limited time favor to get you through this one.
I don't think translating should work. The part needs to be offset in all directions, normal to the surfaces. You'll need a thicken or offset type of operation to do that. If your geometry is fairly simple, you may not see much difference when checking your translated surfaces.
Or you could possibly just cut the other half to -.048 stock.
I don't see why you couldn't copy your defaults file and change the extension to whatever a 2018 file extension is...then you'd have one. I'm pretty sure that all the defaults file is anyway, but with a different extension.
Is this the error you're seeing?
If so, it's been in MC for as long as I can remember (15 years?). It's telling you that you have multiple operations with the same nci name and by posting only one of those ops, you're posting a "partial NCI output"...as opposed to posting all ops with the same nci name.
Why haven't you seen it in the past? Did you always give each op it's own nci name? That would eliminate this message from coming up. Perhaps I have convinced you to try A Form Filler to close the message when it comes and you forgot that you set it up...until now when you're setting up a new computer.
Yes, it's possible. I just tried opening a SW file that I opened and programmed about a month ago and it won't open for me now. Interesting that the date on the file is yesterday and not months ago when it was originally designed. Perhaps our design dept updated something after I left yesterday. They work different hours than I do and are here after I leave. I'll ask them when they get in.
Thanks JP.
OK, so what happens when registering the dll doesn't fix it? I used the advanced configuration tool to unregister and reregister...no luck. I used the cmd line as administrator...no luck. Now what? I got confirmation messages both times that the dll had been registered.
Not sure what happened here. I opened about 20 SW files yesterday with no problem and now this morning I'm hosed.
Using X9.
