  1. Chain your contour twice---> chain 1 direction a to b chain 2 direction b to a & once again use your toolpath editor to get your desired plunge feedrate & rapid point results Its really eazy to use. Also the system will lock that toolpath in so you cant regen out your tool path edit. I have found that mastering the tool path editor will solve a lot of your problems & can make for a real smart running program once you post it out. The tool path editor allow the users to tweek out or in what ever suits your current machining situation. Cheers [ 03-30-2002, 10:28 AM: Message edited by: Kenneth Potter ]
  2. Uses your tool path editor You can get real fancy with bunny hopping around clamps. Play with it a bit youll like it! Cheers
  3. batraul If you try it out & it works you got to remember this. If you change any tool path pocket stradigies (sp?) you must repeat the steps all over again " move the entry chain point to match the pocket entry point. or if you can Eye it out just move the chained point by translate point to point.
  4. lead in / lead out "Exit "Radius /sweep /helix height. Set your settings there. Youll get it Or try Ref point retract . create a point away from your pocket wall. Way cool
  5. Yea I get that funky weird stuff too. Turn off the helix entry first How about Creating another layer then backplot/ save as geometry/ then step slowly thru the backplot to get find the pocket entry point. Then create a point at that location . Delete that unwanted backploted geometry Then add that point to the pocket chain (chain manager} .That will force the pocket tool path to enter at that point. Remember to turn your helix entry back on.
  6. One way is to create false geometry "fake it" at the ends of your open area simulating a closed pocket! Kenneth Potter
  7. Why would you let a vaulable sim be that accessable for someone to swipe !!!!! TRUST NOBODY WITH A SIM !!!!! IF you in a School setting Then ALL your sim connections should be piped to your computers thru a connection hub inside a vaulted security room with an alarm ! Spend the money on the long cables dude! Those sims are gone forever & you just got BURNED! I have a V8 demo & when i first loaded it up it would spit out code like crazy & in the system configeration file/ file usage tab was totaly accessable. it also allowed me to change my default post. I could also change post from the operation manaager/ post dialog box. This went on for about a week before it froze me out??? [ 03-27-2002, 10:06 PM: Message edited by: Kenneth Potter ]
  8. Oh boy this thread is gonna real intresting
  9. http://www.profstudies.com/contact.htm The prereqisist for the training is very strict & costly$$$ IF your weak eyed at hand sketching & have only limited surface & Cad knowledge the class would be a big waste of your time. These guys dont fool around. I have faith that Mastercam will continue to improve & if my complaining seems harsh i just hope that it can be contructive.
  10. Jay Please dont get me wrong I love My Mastercam. And as for my use of those other high end software systems ,,,Well that came over time thru dealing with my contract programming customers that have them in there Cad Dept. Over time I have gained there complete trust & that has allowed me full access & play time. And over time if I like that program & can see a benefit to my bottom line & knowledge I bought it. Jay I know couple of shops that has full blown Pro E 200i & they ONLY use it to convert native Pro-e files to Iges for Mastercam to cut it! Other than that it just sits there !!! So I play with it & yes The shop owner lets me take it & others packages home if I choose Mastercam cannot:( do a lot of things that those other systems can do. & there are a lot of things those other systems CANT do that Mastercam can But there HAS to be a point were all(pricy brand named)) cad/cam programs has to offer A BASIC pallet of common standard tools. And multipul Undos & redos Is one of them! Chamfer line to arc is another ( finally its in V9) What about chamfer arc to arc??? The list goes on. OK who Stole my new V8 Mouse pad !!!!!! Now i,m reallty pissed
  11. Yup James I mean Alia$$$$ & CadCAM I know what you mean By finding a work around but for me its to much work to do that & very distracting (sp?) I got Another pet peave/BUG/complaint/FLAW Draw a arc------> Now draw a line from that arcs center at ANY angle thru that arc. Go create/next menu/chamfer/Distances Select your desired distances & pick the line & arc to chamfer. Guess what folks Your Screwed !!!! Your allowed only line to line chamfering. AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE ! But in Solids you can chamfer an edge (arc to line) Solid . Soooooo I tryed This simple Line to arc chamfering funtion in Autocad Cadkey Rhino Alias & Pro-E & they Allow arc to line Chamfering. Btw I,m still using 8.1.1
  12. As a long time free form modeler (Alias) I sometimes like to try different senerios to get my desired results. HUmmmm lets see.... Try it this way(nope) UNDO..... Hummmm lets see I'll try it that way.....Nope(undo)------- >Hummm lets try this AND that.... Nope(undo). DAG NABIT! ONLY ONE UNDO NOW I GOT TO DELETE ALL THIS STUFF & TRY AGAIN Multiple undos & redos is a common standard funtion among many high end CAD & CAM systems. Many times i refuse to draw in Mastercam cause this feature is MISSIMG Now thats a bug for ya !
  13. I got a bug to report ! This program allow ONLY one undo! !@#$%^^$& NOW thats a FREAKING bug that shudda been fixed /improved by the V9 release
  14. Cadcam What kind of output did you get & why didnt you like it? Kenneth Potter
  15. Greate idea caddude ! Ref points is the coolest ! Kenneth Potter
  16. I tryed to use Two chain points ,One for entry & one exit. I chained the point first then coutour second & exit point third & it didnt work. So I ask can the system allow two seperate entry & exit chain points ?? Kenneth Potter
  17. Hey Dog fartz whats the price for this Geomagic Studio ???? http://www.geomagic.com/products/
  18. quote: Not to be stupid er anything, but why would you want to do this? Mike you asked Why?? Sometimes there are situations weres you only need the point data in a user defind order file/print out for inspection purposes. Also point data to hand out to the operator at the machine for a quicky short hand written program Let mastercam do your trig & output the results in a file & print out form & hand it out to those boring mill & bridge port operators !!! really speeds things up for them They like to double check there math with it. I currently use and Autocad "lisp" program to do this. Its really the coolest thing to have. And as a contract programmer some customers just want the point data cause there pig headed about cadcam programming & still want to program every thing at the machine The uses for this proposed C-hook would be endless Kenneth Potter
  19. Its so bad at one shop that the owner runs machines, sweeps floors, packs parts, goes on the road trying to get sales, & digs out chips inside the machine, & during lunch makes every one power down there machines so he can save money on the electricity. & forlunc he eats and spam sandwich & a apple every freakin day ! Kenneth Potter
  20. I clean up the rag tag junky stuff by creating points along the geometry then spline /Automatic/ select first poin/select second point /select last point. Normally i work on small sections at a time. Kenneth Potter
  21. Ahhh under my nose Thanks Kenneth Potter
  22. Ok here it goes I have imported some close"""" Nurb spline """"chained rectangles with corner fillets & Mastetcam see it as one complete entity. Very cool I created more rectangles using arc/line commands & converted then into nurb splines. Also very cool Now i want to join these converted nurb splines in to one complete nurb entity & the join keeps command gives me the message " cannot joint the splines , there not identical. Not cool The help file says ''This function joins collinear lines, arcs that have the same center and radius, or splines that were originally created as the same entity.'' I use this simple join command on of other cad systems & nomally its a cake walk, When I join lines & arcs the are converted to an one entity spline automaticaly. So I ask if theres a way in Mastercam to join these lines & arcs into one complete Nurb spline entity?? Thanks Kenneth Potter
  23. I fell your pain Elan. Things over there have really gotten bad I for on dont see a clear path for things to get any better. Everybody looses Kenneth Potter
  24. Jeff from Oakland Michigan. Hey Have we meet before ? I think your in My neck Of the woods Kenneth Potter
