  1. That would definately be a file I'd be interested as well!
  2. If you take a look at this thread as well, you'll see how you can actually turn it off all together. http://www.emastercam.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...ic;f=1;t=005838
  3. My 2 cents is... Any time we as programmers get an opportunity to use software for free, prove to the great "check signer" (i.e. employer) that a product is worth purchsing, is a great advantage! Whether it has some glitches or not, hats off to MetaCut for their software, and hats off to MasterCAM for setting us up with it.
  4. Thanks for all three comments! Marc thanks especially, that sealed the deal!
  5. Correction: M9 (The next lines here until the "G28 P4") My bad.
  6. Okay I admit it, I did a search, but just imagine how many threads come up when you search for the word "post" What I was wondering (Trying to be as detailed as I can ): With V9.1 when I go to post tool path, it appears that metacut is regenerating my toolpath which causes a couple of seconds of a pause, no big deal, but also, at the end of my code I'm getting a detailed tool list that is making reference to MCU. No big deal again, but it does have to be deleted. I ran the update post c-hook and tried it which gave me the same result. Any help out there on how to get rid of this? Example: G0 Z.5 M9 (The next lines here until the "M2") MCUSTOCK X17.7287006 Y2.8117001 Z0.3 OTC OX-8.8013 OY-0.2722 OZ-0.2 MCUPTOOL T1 D0.5 L3. F3. R0.09 C0 MCUPTOOL T1 D0.5 L3. F3. 7. Paul, so if I'm understanding you correctly, I should not disable anything on MetaCut? The patch you will be releasing will solve the backplot issue when "clicking" the right mouse button? Or is there a way to fix it that I have missed? Also, MetaCut states that it is a 30 day trial, does that mean it will stop working after 30 days if you do not purchase it? And if so, does that mean it's software inside MasterCAM "disapears" after 30 days? If yes, then don't you think the person using MasterCAM should have had the option of installing it? And if no, if the person using MasterCAM doesn't opt to use it, why isn't there an obvious way to remove it from the operation screen? ( Of course, odds are there is a way, I just haven't taken the time to read up on it ) Oh, and don't get me wrong, I think it is a GREAT product, and I am encouraging our other programmers, that do most of the 3-axis programming, to use it!
  8. I was having the same problem as well. I ended up copying and pasting my Cimco Edit folder from V8.1.1 into my Mcam9 folder.
  9. I don't know if this will solve your problem or not, but, you for sure want to down load the patches from this site and install them. It elimenatated quite of few of the "glinches" I was running in to.
  10. I agree with Toolfab. It's my personal opinion, but from what I've seen, I get the best result working off of my local drive, and using my server for back up.
  11. Welcome to the forum. Just a little confidence booster for you. I jumped in to a new company, had them purchase MasterCAM, couldn't sleep the next couple of days thinking I was in way over my head. But between loving to machine/program, help from my sales rep and friends, and finding this forum, this fell right in to place. Good luck to ya!
  12. Will, ya, I'd still like that info. How's things anyway, you were getting married last time we talked weren't you? The Model 70 I have is DOS, the G96 code is used on our 91000 Control, which is OS/2 (sp?). And like I said, it's a constant feed rate command. It's really awesome actually, instead of taking forever for the head to rotate around on say a profile cut, it takes in to consideration where the tip of the cutter is, and the feed rate call out, and more or less whips the c axis around as if it never had to rotate. If that make sense.
  13. On the Thermwood 5-axis "Super Control" 91000 there is a code, "G96", that allows a constant feed rate in reference to the tool tip. I've tried to input this same code for a Thermwood Cartesian 5, "Model 70" control, with no luck. Anybody happen to know if there's a setting in the control that needs to be tweeked to use this code, if it's even applicable for this machine, or if there's a different code all together that I don't know about? Sorry if this is a repeated question, I did a search, but couldn't find a topic similar.
  14. Does it count if I remember turning V6 on at another shop and messing with it, having a pipe dream that someday, somehow, my boss would fork out the cash Probably not. I guess I'm a rookie, just from 8 'til now. Hats off to you guys! Thanks for keeping the software alive, if it wasn't for the demand, we'd all probably be stuck using Gibbs right now! (Just a joke, nothing against Gibbs, or any other software for that matter.)
  15. I'm just curious as well about Dave's question. Is either of the other axis reversed?
  16. Bullines, thanks for the info. I just made the same change to my Geforce, I'll let you know if there's a difference. Are there any other settings that I might want to change, or is that the only one?
  17. Okay, so maybe the attack on Iraq lastnight may distract you guys from tearing in to Carol today. If not, I wish you the best of luck Carol, just take cover and wait for the smoke to clear.
  18. Thanks for the suggestions, I gave both a try last night!
  19. Just curious if anyone has a file with a good approach at doing a climb, and then a conventional cut on the edge of a part. My situation is cutting some extrusion. A conventional cut for the rough cut doesn't "tear" and "scream in" the material. So I've been doing a conventional rough, and then a climb for finish reasons. What I want to do is have my conventional operation to start at a clearance plane, plunge, make the cut, but then stay down to perform the climb cut, and then, and only then move back up to the clearance plane. I usually just hand edit the code, I've tried a couple of different settings, but without the result I'm looking for. Is it just me? And wouldn't that be a nice feature on contour, to do a conventional and then a climb in the same operation? (Or do I just not know about it?)
  20. My bad, the link should actually be: ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...t_files_&_misc/
  21. Alrighty then, I went ahead and put it in the ftp file : ftp://mastercam:[email protected]/Ma...isc/SetupSheets If there are any problem let me know. Just acouple o' quick tips. The tabs on the bottom show a "set up sheet", as well as a "tool list" tab. As you'll be able to tell by left clicking on either, the screen will show which ever on you select. If you right click on either on, you can rename the tab, as well as copy them (creating new tabs). I keep a blank one at the beginning, both set up sheet and tool list, and when a new part comes up, I copy both forms and place them where the numeric value should land on my list, rename them, and wala, I have one Excel file that logs, traks, lists all of my production jobs. Take a look, edit it if you want, and I'd love to hear some feedback on if anyone chose to use it.
  22. I use Excel to do our set up sheets, as far as for tool lists, part numbers and what not. And then of course a relative picture from MasterCAM showing how the part is machined. Let me know if you're interested, I'd be more than happy to e-mail you a blank one.
  23. I remember a few months ago we had this great running thread on personal preferences of Star Trek. Some friends of mine and I had a great discussion last night that I thought I'd bring in to the forum: "Which is better" i.e legacy, special effects, storyline? "Who'd beat who", i.e Han vs. Piccard, Warf vs. Chewie, Q vs. Yoda etc. Unfortunately there was no who's hotter catagory, that's a lost cause, but I'd love to hear anyone's opinion on whatever comparison you could come up with. Just an edgebreaker before the weekend if you're interested
  24. How about "The Opposite"... I've noticed quite a few times when converting a solid model in from CATIA, which of course gets translated in to surfaces, the surfaces end up with gaps in them. When I then use the "Ghost Solid" feature I end up with gaps in my solid. Any suggestions on this problem, say tips on my Catread settings, or the Solid from Surfaces settings? Oh, and don't bother with suggestions on how to get a better model created from an engineer, that's a lost cause
  25. I learned on one of the old DOS versions of SmartCAM (I have no idea what version), and graduated to another version at the shop I'm at now. It took me about two weeks to want to change software. The major concern, which you mentioned was that it's more or less obsolete, i.e no support, no upgrades. All in all, in my opinion you definately want to keep up with industry standards, one of them being software. Anyhow's I chose to switch to MasterCAM ultimately because I know so many other MC users which makes for great conversation and learning opportunities. But to be honest, I think the other competitors that I looked in to are right up there with MC. It's similar to comparing a Fadal to a Haas (Quality of course not the point of comparison), both serve it's purpose, but one may have features that you personally prefer over the other. In my opinion, I'd go with MasterCAM, if you're in to programming, learning the basics will be challenging, but once it starts to gel, you'll love it! But definately look into what people you know are using, friendly advice is always a plus. This forum alone has been great benefit, as well as the distributor the purchase was made thru, the contacts made by both, and the friends I know that use it! Good luck. I'd like to see another post once you decide on a product.
