  1. quote: And no...I am not talking about budget (ie Haas) machines either.... You could have a VM6 and a trunion and money to spare. (I saw a MV500 was $250k westec show price). That budget machine will keep up with the MoRiSeIki's all day!
  2. Wasn't Mastercam developing some software for CMMing? I haven't or heard much of it since V9 seminars. You know that Haas can interpolate 50 millionths!
  3. So, Does X5 come with a pre-nup?
  4. got your message. Can you blame a guy for trying?
  5. Some of those screw machines that run on a cam make this happen in one swoop.
  6. I work on a Haas SL20. In the cannedcycle there is a code for taper angle. G84 X Z D K F I (I is taper angle). You could run a taper angle for the tip, then run the thread canned cycle for the thread. It should match.
  7. Spindle to the rev limiter. Feed as fast as programmable for your machine! with that stuff I'd bet you could run it in dryrun.
  8. Hi Ed, There has been numerous attempts at tring to compensate for surface feed rate for milling applications. I used to program for Fadal's and their approach was a (G08 G09). Some kind of incremental acceleration blah baleh blah. No Bueno. I have alway's turned it off with a G08. Steve the Mexican!
  9. Fun project.. I designed it at a buddies shop, He's got SolidWorks. Built it at another buddies shop. He's got X3. I haven't seen it yet. I might get a seat of Level 1, Just to have I guess.
  10. Hi Jay, Next week I'll be thirty. I designed and built some carbon fiber mold recently. That's about it for molds lately. I'm retired! Haven't worked a honest day in a couple of years.

  12. Check it out Mastercrash. That's easy money! I'd rough out most of the Matl. 2d. If the surface has an angle. surface it. You want to make one toopath to finish the job for you. You asked for advise from a .jpeg. I'd have that in the machine roughing and I'd be writting my surface toopaths.... You want me to program it for you? 13. Seriously, Kick the thing up 90 project a line through the center of the entire part. Cut that 2d since the base is already cut....
  14. Yes. I've cut tapers like that all the time. Mastercam has perfect toolpaths for features like that!
  15. Raster 2 vector (it's a c-hook ) I think that function could use some improvement. The reason is because you still have to go through and re-create the geometry. If you have art and know how to get around in it. I've seen that work well!
  16. Sometimes there's problems in the geometry. Even though the geometry looks like it chains (closed loop). I'll go through and start trimming all the geometry again to find that something wasn't trimmed properly. I'll usually use trim 2 and chain partial (click on the wait box after you select the initial entity). If you chain partial it'll try to close the chain. In a chain partial you have to guide the arrow and it'll usually let you know if there's a break in the geometry. Hope that helps.

    Flowline

One of my favorite surfacing toolpaths. It's a very picky toolpath though. All surfaces have to have consistant normals and have to flow in the same direction. If I can't get multisurfaces to flow I'll toolpath each surface individually. Takes some time but as a programmer. That's your job! You might have to re-create some of the surfaces to get that one to flow. It's codes nicely and usually you'll get a good surface finish.
  18. quote: open MC this morning pulled my file and Op's manager is gone. The xxxx must of quit witout giving you his two weeks!
  19. That bit me.... I drew something brought it into Mastercam, started running some surface toolpaths and Gouge!

    WCS Issues

quote: Chip, anytime improving CAD or the WCS in Mastercam is mentioned someone says Mastercam isn't a CAD application. At this point it doesn't look like any kind of reasonable discussion can be had without someone saying Mastercam isn't CATIA.... even if $650 SpaceClaim has some good features that Mastercam could very badly use. Most people know that I'm all for constructive critisizim. I don't speak for mastercam or their designers. Constructivly, I've tried to point out that Solidworks has some nice features. The way one starts a sketch with a plane. Bitchen! One thing that sometimes takes me a moment to orient myself is when I try to Cplane Normal. In Solidworks, you could create that plane normal (sometimes it takes a couple of planes to get the normal your looking for). Then a Plane is visible that you are constructing on. Mastercam has a tiny orientation and sometimes it takes a moment to obtain the proper Z. Not an issue. I started in Mastercam (before I was a solidworks user). I don't think James was saying that as some sort of a cop out. Sometimes it's difficult to have constructive critizim when there's some off the wall POS spinning it to seem like Mastercam has a bug when the guy doesn't even know the software. I mearly tried to point out what other comperable softwares offer. I'm still not sure if those are the issues or if Niel doesn't like the parameters? Chip teh trying to help!
