  1. Depending on what the corners look like when they wear out it could be that your surface footage is too high. As suggested please give the face mill type and insert type to be helped better.
  2. A friend told me years ago (30 plus) Profit comes down to 1 simple equation. Time, efficiency, and manpower. Optimize all three to full potential and you are as profitable as possible forget one and your losing money.
  3. +1 and more for IMCO best in class for the price and performance. From what I have seen WALTER gives a better ROI than ISCAR still very pricey though and would go with IMCO 1st.
  4. Other than software differences what is the difference between strain gauge probes and std. optical probes? i.e. OMP-400 vs. OMP40 or 60
  5. Just signed for the one in Albany, Thanks for the info
  6. The OMP60M is a modular version of the OMP60. It has interchangeable extensions that fit between the transmission module and the probe module. It comes in lengths up to 200mm. This would allow you to keep the current styli length that you are using. The only draw back is the purchase price close to $8500 when all said and done.
  7. Great analogy, I have just started down the road of probing and it's times like this that I enjoy visiting this site. Lots of good info with helpful advice. I've been fortunate to date to have both help from the forum and good contacts made over the years to help me stay on track
  8. There are Long carbon fiber stems with Ruby, Stainless extensions, or Carbon fiber extensions in the length you mentioned from RENISHAW. Do you have M2,M3 M4 or M5 styli? The price ranges from $110.00 to $420.00 depending on what you want and which styli.
  9. If your using an OMP60M 200mm extension P/N is A-4038-1028 cost is around $840.00 OMP 40 and 400 do not list any extensions. Western is an authorized RENISHAW dealer.
  10. JIT, just in time it is all part of the lean manufacturing plan. How long is your set up time to do the time how much common tooling is there used in that job compared to others? If you can leave your common tooling in the machine you will reduce set up time. A part on the shelf runs the risk of never being bought. Then you will loose time and material times 2. Reason for this is there will be a paying job that will not be done or put on hold during this time.
  11. Bob, Dave Grey is the Regional sales manager for Renishaw, he is going stop by my work place the week of the 15th after returning from IMTS. Here is his contact info (he's also on vacation right now) <[email protected]>. He has been a great help to me to date. You maybe able to set up a visit with him on the same day if he's available. Or if your going to IMTS look him up. Tim Hainz
  12. Bob, Do I remember correctly and your located in Newberg Ore.?
  13. Will this be posted for viewing later for those of use who are unable to attend?
  14. Newbie dug himself a hole and needs a post to put in it....
  15. You can run the G52 in your program. Make sure you cancel it before each M1 and recall it again after, and cancel before your M30. Once hard lined in your program M30 will no longer reset the preset values in your offset.
  16. I use Technks standard set screw tool holder with coolblast (thru spindle capable) . I also put a whistlers notch on the endmill to help prevent pull out.
  17. I like see the pond out back?? let them draw their own conclusion.....
  18. I always love telling reps that my loyalty is with the cutter that is the most efficient and cost effective. Walter this time does not mean it won't be Iscar or Sandvik next time.....
  19. RENISHAW's Regional sales manager for the west coat (he used to do mid west) area is Dave Grey. Office phone out of MI is 810-629-2874. Call your HAAS reseller also if your HAAS is new enough it might have what you need in it macro wise then to buy the probe and activate the software it might run you around $15000.00 total.
  20. Worked at a place once that had the lower cost janitorial kid cleaning up. He used to leave his coffee cup anywhere and everywhere. One day a co-worker and I hung it up in the rafters after telling him to stop leaving it lay around. Took him about a week and a half before he spotted it. After a couple of tosses with a broom to get it down he finally hit the bottom of the cup which poured out all over him. He never left the cup sit around again. Also you get what you pay for even with a janitorial service would you really want them messing with one of your CNC's?
  21. My thoughts on all the above. The insert he took was a Walters High feed insert. If it was a round insert you could go for a specific diameter and adjust for the difference but on anything else to grind them all the same and keep the correct geometry not possible in my mind. These inserts as well as any other insert I use cuts only Titanium (6-4 cast primarily). I push them as hard as my machine or fixtures allow. The one mentioned is on a 2" dia 4 pocket high feed mill. Ran at 173 sfm with .099 cpr and a .05 doc. any more and I would rip the part out of the fixture. Currently I get around 8-12 part per edge or 24-36 minutes of use. Thanks for the confirmation looks like there is one more thing to add to the things to teach an engineer list.
  22. Ok, We have an engineer who is also in charge of our continuous improvement program. He came up to me today with a great cost saving idea (face palm coming). He wants to send out spent indexable inserts out and have them reground FACE PALM . He feels that they can be put back to manufacturer spec. I tried to explain to him not possible but he pulled the engineer card and said it was and also a viable solution to reducing tooling costs. So if you could say anything to this guy (to convince him it's a bad idea) what would you say?
  23. Do they have a form or angular tolerance? If they have a form tolerance and the 120 deg drill point is listed as a feature not angular can you use that to your favor?
