  1. not needed. Optirest will figure out the best method based on the part geometry, rest material and containment boundary.
  2. It's been a while but it was around 10 ipm if I remember correctly. There isn't really much load to worry about....it goes through nice and easy.
  3. I would typically ream it to within about .001.
  4. I didn't mind it before X6....but as soon as I started using stock models + optirest it became a p.i.t.a. One change in an early toolpath results in many subsequent operations becoming dirty.
  5. Have you ever tried to backplot a toolpath and accidentally hit this little gem of a button? When you are working with about a dozen stock models and optirest....not cool. Minor improvement for X8? .......hint, hint, hint.
  6. Google Ballizing. I have used ball bearings (in aluminum) and they work really well. Put a program stop, load the ball bearing into the hole, and press it thru with the machine (used a dowel pin held in a collet chuck)
  7. The normals are definitely screwed up...if I analyze any of the solid surfaces, the normal is pointing toward the center of the solid. If I try to flip the normal, it does not respond. My only option at this point is to create surfaces from the solid and then flip all the surface normals....all 917 of them. Oh well
  8. That didn't work...it looked promising. It ended up creating surfaces (on the same level as the solid) and not flipping the normals... .
  9. Nevermind....found the solution in Verisurf Tools. Handy little add-on.
  10. What is the quickest way to flip all my surface normals on a solid? The solid has approximately 900+ surfaces so I really don't feel like flipping each one individually. Any thoughts? a c-hook perhaps? Thanks
  11. Not to add more fuel to the fire but.... This for Mazak but I'm sure it holds true for Fanuc as well.
  12. are you running X7? Uncheck drive surfaces in the geometry section of collision control and it will open up the field you are looking for. or create a whole new strategy
  13. Focusing on dynamic toolpaths. There will be presentations along with cutting demonstrations on a few of the machines we have in our technology center. We have a QTS250 that will be doing dynamic turning and a couple of VCU 400s that will be doing dynamic milling toolpaths. Maybe a few more machines in the mix if we have the time. There will be refreshments, opportunities to network and Q/A time with some of the folks at CNC Software.
  14. The gears have already been set into motion. After discussion with a few people at CNC it was suggested (by CNC) that afternoon typically works best.. I've never been involved in anything like this before so I'm going to listen to the advice of someone who has. I'm always open for suggestion. I completely understand if people can't take time off of work for this session....but I've also played hooky in the past for the sake of professional development. I guess we will see what the turnout looks like and heed any and all constructive criticism.
  15. For anyone interested here are the details: Feb. 20th @ Mazak Northeast Technology Center, Windsor Locks, CT 1pm-4pm.
  16. It's sad when management can't trust their own setup guys.
  17. That's what I was looking for. Not a good place to put it..... thanks
  18. I would think so too....but no dice.
  19. How can I remove the NC assistant from the screen? You can drag the handle to reduce the size but I don't see any option to get rid of it.
  20. Need more info. What toolpath are you using? How are you defining your rest material? What does the geometry look like?
  21. Steep/shallow. Use Z depths to force the tool to start deeper? Just a thought. or maybe break the part up into sections using containment boundaries? I've run into this problem before...not sure if there is a real solution.
  22. Typically caused by parameters. Several to look at....baud rate, parity, stop bits...etc.. Another thing to look at. Make sure there is no % in the heading of the program and also no spaces.
  23. That clears it up. I'm just running 2 sessions right now and recreating all my planes again. Maybe in the future you will be able to translate everything together (geometry, WCS, planes) Thanks to everyone who responded.
