  1. James, Of all the places for people to complain about the capital letters being screaming I would think a cnc forum would be the last place. I have yet to encounter a control that accepts lower case letters. Many times I'll spend all day with the caps lock button on. Sometimes I even have to re-enter my password because of it. But the point being with the nature of our trade I kind of think one would expect or at least not mind an electronic communication in all capital letters. Besides, maybe, and most likely, He's really happy and singing out loud.
  2. I must agree CNC Automation writes the best 5-axis post I've ever come across for thermwoods
  3. Hey Cadcam, How did you create the pretty picture, i.e. the screen capture?
  4. Would comment but loose lips sink ships.
  5. One thing that might ??? posibly be an issue is whether you are cutting to the tip or center of the ball and raising by the rad. I remember years ago getting totally different output.
  6. There is a c-hook that converts nci to apt and apt to nci. go to www.multiaxis.com Their a reseller in washington. Have used this c-hook before and it works great both ways.
  7. I was fortunate enough to see Metrolosys running at a machine tool show and talk to the developers. TOTALLY BLEW MY SOCKS OFF!!! So easy to use and program plus output full GD&T inspection reports.
  8. Naw, The mill8.txt is in the right place and mastercam runs just fine if I click on the icon or the mill8.exe and all my mc8, mc7 geo, igs... files are associated with the mill8.exe to be honest its kinda confusing. I was wondering if I do the repair from the cd won't it overwrite my mill8.cfg file and then won't that mess up the v8.1.1 add on settings?
  9. All the dimensions for my part are in English Units Except for 4 M6x1 tapped holes. Pretty dumb I know! However...I managed to merge the tap into my english tool library but is my feedrate going to be all wrong? If so should I just multiply the feedrate by the great and magical (1/25.4)...
  10. When version 8 first came out I was able to double-click any file associated with Mastercam and it would start up Mastercam. Now with V8.1 or V8.1.1 it errors out saying cannot read mill8.txt. Is this because the config file is looking for mill8.txt in the wrong place?
  11. Dudes, Rhino is the coolest 3-d nurbs based modeler for making free-form anthropomophic shapes like that shark or faces. I'm using it to drive my faro arm and reverse engineer feet and then cut out orthotics on a 5-axis thermwood for Seattle Orthopdic Group. Way more fun than aerospace stuff.
  12. When I set the work origin for a part on a mill I usually (90% of the time) use the immovable fixture locations to establish my origin. Then if the stock is sawed big or is not necessarily flat it doesn't matter. I always set Z from the bottom; 1) if the tool breaks in the middle of a "part" I don't have to try to "touch-off" of something that isn't there anymore... 2) for consistency.
  13. You could load a wire cup brush in the spindle and run it over the top of the holes to break off the burrs...maybe!
  14. Is version 9 released? is it in beta? how do I get it if its only beta?
  15. How do you enable "beyond 8.1.1" features
  16. I have found that CNC-Automation writes great posts and are most helpful with their support. You can reach them at 1(800)421-5955. Their out of Quebec Canada.
  17. I know we all tend to do it all from deburring to QA and everything in between and to be honest I don't really care what they call me but I was looking on a headhunter/salary comparison type website and couldn't find anything that quite fit cnc programmer/application engineer/journeyman machinist/ master tool maker. SOOO...Whats your title?

  19. Usually when I encounter "only single axis rotation is allowed its because the positive x and y directions of my tool plane are pointed the wrong way. Try rotating the construction plane about z 90 or 180 degrees
  20. Gstephens, I, too would like a copy of your powerpoint presentation e-mailed to me
