Paul,
If this
quote:
1/4 bspt tap is for a "British standard pipe thread NON_PRESSURE" I don't see any taper call out for it in the machinist handbook.
If it is for "British standard pipe thread PRESSURE-TIGHT JOINTS" there is a taper on the external part and either straight or taper on the internal part.
I can't actually find how much the taper is though.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Would I lie to you Phil? Well I am outside the circle and I would call is messin' with me more than lying to me. But I trust you now. At least on this.
quote:
I am getting two Z values for my threading cycle
I am not quite sure what you are refering to . Are you getting a different "Z" value output on your approach?
quote:
On re-thread I can specify .5 in the "Acceleration clearance" block Can you not put the same value in on the initial threading pass?
Also do you have anything set in the reference point? That might cause you problems.

Z.4991 Is this what you're problem is?
Does anyone have any vector drawings of celtic knows and or designs they wouldn't mind sharing?
I have a couple of things I would like to engrave.
Thanks.
Use a G1 prep call instead of a drill cycle.
G0 Z.1 (approach)
Z.015
G1 Z-.06 F.001
Z-.325 F.003
G0 Z.1
Then clear out of the way.
I must say that .003 per revolution seems quite fast in my opinion for a .043 dia drill.
Phil
Ron,
Will this be turned into three jaws or or will this be a fixture and mounted in the chuck?
We have done similar setups where I mount the jaws on the lathe and mill out the needed shape using the "C" axis on the lathe.
It definitely allows easier and more accurate boring of an offset hole.

Unfortunately, the twin spindle thing isn't exactly rock solid at the moment Now there's an understatement if I ever heard one. I've been waiting for years for substantial improvements in this area and just get by with work a rounds.
Jay,
I'm sorry this is giving you so much trouble.
I do want to say thanks for you doing your best to provide this space for us to use. It sure helps.
Cheers to you.
