  1. It would also help if your facility purchased a legal version of Mastercam from the reseller in your province, instead of using unlicensed software. I believe the reseller is called In-House Solutions.
  2. Cimco has been an excellent product for us. We have sold numerous DNC systems, and they have been very reliable. Their professional edition editor with its' backplot feature is second to none. It supports a wide variety of protocols, ISO and conversational code, and uses a clean, logical interface.
  3. Type 2 works as an optional parameter that allows undercuts. In the real world, we would post the code long-hand instead of spending 4 hours trying to make G71 work, and your part will be fine.
  4. We have a post for your machine. Please have your reseller contact Dave Thomson (site admin) for more info.
  5. Thanks Surface for the Idaho Artillery. It gives the Canadian Armed forces something to aspire to....
  6. Welcome to our Socialist Paradise!! Big Brother knows best....
  7. I believe there are a few members on the forum that machine rifle components. I could use a few sample files if you are allowed to share. Please email to my attention, and I will love you long time, GI. My primary interest is in the breach block, carriage, and other metal components, not in the stock or barrel itself. thanks
  8. As you are probably aware, we are not allowed to discuss specifics of Mastercam X on a public forum. With that said, you raise some excellent points, which should be taken up with your reseller. As for verification, I would rather use Vericut and simulate posted G-code than anything inside a CAM package for 5 axis or mill/turn applications, budget permitting.
  9. Jimmy, I never had that problem. Make sure all your gouge checks are on (I am not sure why they are not on by default for safety.) if you have the problem again, send it to tech support at Inhouse
  10. My mistake, you are talking about detect flats, not "shallow" Try using "detect flats" during your surface/rough/pocket toolpath so you do not have more stock left on flat areas than the rest of the part. This will make finishing a lot easier
  11. I would not use parallel to semi finish or finish a die, unless the shape was fairly flat with no steep walls. surface/finish/contour followed by shallow might give you a better result. The shallow option you are talking about is in surface/finish/contout and can be used to either add or remove passes from shallow areas.
  12. Smartcam posts http://microsystemsgeorgia.com/tochtm/codegens/mill-cg.htm (and no Smartcam Gestapo to guard them!) enjoy
  13. From what I have seen of X, the biggest learning curve will be for those of us that use Mastercam as our primary CAD system. The toolpaths and other machining specific functions are a lot easier to learn. I will highly recommend some kind of update training to customers. The change is far, far more profound than going from V7 to V8, or V8 to V9. From the sounds of things, CNC Software is also compiling some good transitional training material for existing Mastercam users.
  14. Yes, everything we use was made by a machinist (directly or indirectly). Though there are a few "engineer haters" on this forum, keep in mind that everything that we machinists have built was designed by an engineer. They are equally important and deserve lots of respect.
  15. Hi Bob I know you are a waterjet guy, but wouldn't laser make much more sense for material that thin? p.s. How is Ottawa these days? I need to come up and sell a few more 50 cent CDs for thousands of dollars..
  16. I would have to agree with Brendan. Funky things happen with the geometry during backplot. I think you are better off to create a separate operation
  17. Mastercam has a tool that combines both these approaches. It is called Thinwall. You can find it in your pocketing parameters. If you don't want to rough the pocket, just uncheck the roughing parameter box.
  18. I would peck and use a slower feedrate. Are you in CSS or RPM mode? You may wish to use CSS until you get to about .75 dia, then switch to RPM mode. If you stay in CSS mode, your RPM gets so high that coolant is deflected by the bar and not reaching the tool tip. Try positive, neutral and negative inserts, 4025 is a good grade, so that is not the issue. Make sure the blade is slightly below center
  19. Hi Murlin Thanks for sharing those specs. Though there is no such thing as a "perfect 3D strategy" that suits all parts, the approach that you detailed is a pretty good way to attack to most 3D parts and is quite effective.
  20. Hey Dave What school do you go to in Northern Ontario? P.S. you can't load any tools into the tailstock of a CNC lathe whatsoever. It works completely different than a conventional lathe.
  21. For the integrex, you will need Mill and lathe. You will be doing your programming in Lathe, but will have access to Mill functions (pocketing, face milling, etc., as part of your available menus. You will also need a good post. I heard that In-House Solutions sells some great Integrex posts, but they are all a bunch of crooks so watch your wallet.
  22. Jan 19th of which year? Are half frozen Canucks invited?
  23. I also like Predator for verification. Very fast and good STL capabilities. Vericut is probably the best one around, but twice the cost. ...This just in....Field Marshal Von Eigler and Gruppenfuhrer Bouman have abandoned their positions and are running for cover....
  24. Did you hit the "use job setup values" button in the Verify config box?
