Compared to the p3 933 with a whopping 256meg of ram that I am forced to run on that sounds great to me. Nothing like going for break and still having to wait on a tool path to calculate.

well i just ordered 2 computers. i already have 2 19" monitors of the same brand. i knew it wouldnt be a steal. the price of the box is $2500. I did check the price on the video card and it was $1300 so i thought i was getting a good price.

I would have gone for the Dual Core or the Quad Core.

I am partial to buying the parts myself and doing it that way.

If you could have put this together yourself, you'd probably save $1500.

I'm building a bad mo fo right now for $1800 w/out the monitor.

A build like that would have cost me well over $4000 on Dell or Alienware's site.

Drive is a little on the smallish side but other than that... not too bad.

 

You'll definitely like the performance of that SCSI drive though.

We have 3 computers here that all use th3 Quadro FX 3000 video card, we haven't had any problems with them yet. I think we have been using them for 3 or 4 years, but I could be wrong. I just loaded an older set of drivers version 81.67 to deal with the new version of solidworks, they don't recommend the newest version.

P4 is the bad part. Current Core 2 Duo have so much more bandwidth it's silly. My laptop is a 2.16 C2D and my PC is a 3.2 Pentium D dual core but otherwise the RAM and video card are pretty equal. My laptop is 4 minutes faster on the benchmark. For $3100 I'd build you a you Core 2 Quad that will run circles around any P4, no warranty though other than individual component Mfg's warranty.
