Greg,

 

Have you used the paper, Ihave some 3/8 X 6 X 12

Aluminum plates I am going to make some custom company licensed plates, I will be roughing with a 3/8 2 fluter (data flute) will it hold? I was gonna go a little aggressive. Looking for alternitves to holding them, Dont have good vac pump.

Here’s one that I guarantee has not been used or considered.

 

A broken chicken egg is a natural adhesive – try this sometime without coolant and you will be surprised how strong the bond can become. (I learned this from a retired English toolmaker)

 

To release, just give the job a crack on the side. biggrin.gif

I have used hot glue to hold parts down. I machine a fixture plate with several small raised pads (about .005-.01 tall and no more than .1 in diameter), warm the fixture plate slightly so the glue does not set too quickly. I have a bucket of cold water to finish setting the glue and a hot plate with a pan of water for warming the glue up after the machining is done. Sometimes it is necessary to cut some grooves in the fixture so the glue will have somewhere to go so the part does not “float”. This procedure also works well for castings that are flimsy
