The computer had (2) 8in floppies. One for the EXE file and one for storage. No mouse , no hard drive and a 4 color monitor

I used something like that in the late 80s early 90s to prog & run some wire EDMs. It was an NCR box to run Bridgepoorts EZ EDM. but we did have a digitizeing tablet that had some mouselike functionality.

When I started programming everything in the shop @ 1999 the Engineering Dept was run by a Mac guy (...not that there's anything wrong with that wink.gif ) but at the time you couldn't find anything new coming out for the Macs. When we finally upgraded went to MC 7.

Guess I'm kind of lucky I missed alot of the middle stuff.

I originally learned on 3.1, then moved between smurfcam, Encode/Genesis, Gibbs and several other systems before coming back to MasterCam at 8.1.1. Big changes at that point. It was almost like learning all over again. Now I'm into X, NX, dabbling in SolidCam and maybe Catia. I've seen a lot along the way, I think that's why to me, change is no big deal. Just another day in the life.

In todays market knowledge IS power.

Power is $$$

My first time when my Brother-in-law got it and it had the big 8in floppy he had bought it from my boss of now before he has the company he has now.(Cad-Cam Consulting Services)

It was Quicksilver before it became Mastercam.

By version 2 and 3 I was doing Wax investment molds with it.

I have used every version sense but dabbed in Surfcam as I was trained at one time as they wanted me to be a trainer back then it was Version 7 of surfcam.

I had also at a few places that had MC & Gibbs tried Gibbs but always went to MC to get the job done.

I was lucky enough to not have to start programing till the early days of V7. My employer made me learn how to remove steel before he would let me write a path. I was in the trade for 4 years before I took my first class. At the time I was programming and then having to go to class after work to get a 3 hour lcture on how to use a file ugh hold at a 30 deg angle 5-60 strokes per minute and people wonder why there is such a high level of dropouts lol

But on a side note just want to thank some of the X guys who took so much time to have this debate and the demeanor they took in the way they posted.

"Spirited Debate" and Discussion is definitely a good thing. We're all kind of fumbling around in our own ways to do someting that is a very organic process. Hand a print to 10 different programmers and you're probably going to see at least 8 different approaches. It's just the nature of the trade. I can tell you without a doubt I am a better programmer because of things people have said in here and approaches that they have taken in different situations to get the parts out the door.

Definitely a cheers.gif to all.
