Arc Direction

Hello folks.

I'm using mastercam x and posting using mpfan.

When I turn on the filters to get a smoother toolpath, every now and then the tool path will change arc direction from cw to ccw. Verification does not show this change...only the gouged part.

 

Anyone have any idea as to what may cause this?

Yes I have experienced this.

seen it on some engraving.

Try changing the control def to output full arcs,not quad breaks.

Screen-Combine Views may help. It helps with other arc issues.

I get this once in a blue moon. It's generally just one or two arcs out of hundreds.

This is happening on my surface finish paths.

Changing the machine def quad arcs to full arcs has no affect on surface I'm cutting...with filtering off it works fine...turn it on and it sweeps the arcs the wrong direction.

when i had this problem it was due to small arc length moves...try changing the ltol in your post to something higher

Sounds a lot like what happened to me.

 

Even running the code on a third party verificatiion showed no problem for me. It's a problem with the machine's interpretation of the code...

My reseller gave some suggestion about filtering. I'll have to look through some old e-mail tomorrow...

what plane is it happening in? xy, yz, or xz? a Fadal i use was doing it in yz and xz when i had the arc filter on in all 3 planes cutting a 3d path. usually in a corner where 3 radii met. turned of the filter for yz and xz, now no more gouges!

We have the same issue as Millman here on our Milltronics as far as yz and xz planes.So we turned them off in filter also and that took care of it.Also contouring we have to use sharp on roll cutter aroud corners or sometimes it will go the wrong direction also.

The Milltronics does do the G18 plane G2/G3s backwards by default I believe. It can be changed with a control parameters/setting.
