Hi all

I have a fanuc robodrill here and just got a job that I need to pocket away a good amount of material. It is 6061 alum. and the largest tool dia I am going with is a 1/2 EM. Anyone not familiar with the machine it is limited in horsepower but it can move pretty quick. Maximum rpm is 15000. I am just searching for some tool recommendations, depth of cut and speeds and feeds. I have cut a few jobs at 12000 and 120ipm with a depth of .125 with standard carbide but curious what else is out there that I can ripp a little faster.. biggrin.gif

edit:max depth of pocket is 1.125

Thanks

Mike

Call Eric at Tesco Technologies he can tell you exactly what is possible in moments 1-877-908-3726. I just returned from a shop that has some robodrills and Mikron HSM machines and he was supplying all their Al tooling. 12mm CEM 36,000RPM 1200IPM.

You can certainly push the endmill every bit as hard as that machine is going to want to run. Look at a solid carbide rougher to take out the bulk of your stock and run as much axial DOC at the machine'll do without bogging the spindle...

I know for a fact that if you get a 128MB CF Card, you won;t have any compatability issues. If you go larger than 256MB, there have been some issues. Not for everyone, but for some. 128MB is the solid bet and is what I use and have had ZERO issues with.

Besides the CF Card, you'll need a CF Adapter for a PCMCIA slot.

Data Flutes work very very well, although having much better results in the past few months with garr alumistars 1/2 and if you really want to move some alum with a 1/2 incher, duramill serated 3 flute, just did a pocket using truemill 2d at 1.240 Full loc at 9000 rpms 320ipm with .23 step over took 6 minutes to do a 12.875 by 8.75 pocket in M1 Cast Alum.
