It doesn't sound like they're dealing with brain surgeons. The buyers of beta software may be dumb enough to call in with tech support questions. Then just ask for the sim number. If they can't provide it, "Bam", you got 'em. Of course you should politely ask for their name and number before providing any sort of tech support. Just say it would allow you to get back in touch with them if the line should go "dead".

I see cracked version of UG18, Catia 5.7, Cimatron v.12, EdgeCAM 6.0.

And many of "gray" users of this cracked software never call to technical help telephone. But they are working and working...

Also many Russian CAD/CAM dealers have a lot of problems. 3000$ vs 3$ ???

eagerb,if you go to mmsonline.com go to forums under cad/cam there was a canadian that put an add on there for hacked software you wouldnt believe the list.He has everything,The e-mail address was removed for copyright reasons,but I remember....

There are cracked versions of EVERYTHING UG's latest and greatest, CATIA's latest and greatest, Pro/E, Pro/Man, Delcam, GibbSCAM, SmurSCAM, CIMMATRON, you name it, it's out there. I've seen them and it's sad to think that the billions of man-hours that went into developing all that software goes down the tubes just like that. Not getting the fair return on their investment for all the time, effort, and money that companies invest is what hurts worst. Because piracy is so rampant it just means that the software won't ever be as good as it could be.

 

Just sad..............

Please forgive me. I'm often naive thinking that someone who bought a hacked version of software would call for technical support. I also should not be saying that anyone is dumb. Thank you for pointing out my unprofessionalism. I apologize if I have ever insulted anyone with my posts. I was simply trying to suggest one method for finding "gray" users. I am ignorant about Russia and other countries where this sort of thing happens frequently, as opposed to here, where things are supposed to be legit all the time. I was, as you put it, talking about myself in a sense. I am not the greatest of programmers or CNC machinists. Not by a long shot. Just trying to out a living like everyone else.

Just thought I'd share my thoughts of the last couple of days:

 

It's obvious that piracy strikes a nerve amongst those of us who make a living using, selling, and supporting the products. WE lose out whenever companies/shops that use pirated software win bids over those that try to play by the rules.

 

I'm sure that we can put together our own grassroots campaign to show our displeasure with the piracy -- sort of a Mastercam Users "Just Say No to piracy" blitz. Bumper stickers, t-shirts, letters to Congress, etc.

 

Again, these are just my thoughts. I'll try to stay out of the coolant fog before I post again.

I would like to get some mastercam merchandise,Shirts that put down other systems would be great,most of my outside associates use differant systems,and for some unknown reason they think its better,I used four differant systems (all legit purchuses)and I can do anything they can do,especially with this much help.Sorry for rambling O/T.

BSA and Mcam about pirated software Sad to say

the site is still up and running???? Whats going on BSA.... Check it out for your self. I paid full price for my mastercam...

Like i said before

Program security for these programms just plain sucks. Dongel/Hasp/Key/White thingy plug with pins / has technology thats weak & full of holes.

 

Look at the prices of these crack! :eek:I,m starting to get real nauseous The Flood gates are wide open. And the software Indusry has fell asleep at the wheel & crashed head on into on coming traffic. Its over folks

 

BTW Vericut is also cracked !!!!!!! I,v seen it for my self!!!!!!!

I've been watching this for a few days now, and it seems shocking to me that you are all so suprised that this (and any other software) has had the security system breached.

 

Software is no different than any other security. If you find a way to protect something, 5 other people will find a way to get around it. That's just how it is.

 

There's ABSOLUTELY NO WAY ON EARTH to keep people from getting what they want. Period. There never will be.

 

Software has only been around a couple decades, but locks have been around for centuries. Don't you think if they could have found a way to protect a lock from being picked they would have done it already? They can't. They never will.

 

It's a fact of life and there's nothing you or the BSA can do about it, except to catch those they can catch and make an example out of them.

 

Stiffer penalties and higher fines will help, as will lower priced software. But you'll never stop people from hacking.

 

So if you see someone or know of someone using illegal software, report them. That's about all you can do to help. But keep in mind that even if reported, it's very hard to prove or force compliance. That's the price you pay for living in a free country and having all these wonderful rights you have!

yup thats life, maybe if software houses changed from being a product orientated buisness to being service orientated then they wouldnt have to worry about protection as good service is something that while is invaluable its also impossible to pirate
