We have a Mazak Nexus 410A with Mazatrol PC Fushion CNC 640M control that I need to start programming for. What would be a good post to start with?

Thad MPMASTER will be very close. Get out your book and just make the little changes needed for G and M codes and all will be well.

Anyone that buys a Mazak machine without ones needs to be taken out back and beaten IMHO.

No touch probe that I'm aware of, but we do have a Renishaw laser tool setter. Just a couple months ago you guys helped me get it working to calculate wear comp values.

 

It's not a new machine for us. They just want me prepared to be able to program for it when things get really busy or the other programmer is on vacation. In the meantime, I'll take 'em out back and beat 'em, Ron.

What about people who buy a machine (or machines, we have about 10 with tool setters) and until I came here last year, they had never (NEVER!) been used.... Where does that rate on your take them out back scale? At least they bought them, no?

I won't be able to accomodate you on the pics at this time. I'm still the new guy here.

 

I don't run the Mazak or program it, until now. I have no opinion of it other than it's fast!

 

 

Are Mazaks known to be sturdy machines? It's a 40 taper. How would you guys rank them to my beloved Fadals?

Well Fadal being the 55 Volkswagen bug and the Mazak being the 2005 Porshe. Take from that what you will. I use to push VTC machines with 4" facemill all day long cutting steel and SS with no problem.

Not really that bug had a 36 hp motor and the Porsche has well over 200 hp so think it is a pretty fair comparison the Yugo had at least 47 hp. LOLOLOLOL

Has anyone else run Fadals and Mazaks and care to comment on the rigidity difference? I see the depth of cuts they're taking on the Mazaks and we took twice as much on our Fadals.

Sorry Thad was going by spindle. I have taken much deeper cuts on Fadal than I ever would on a Mazak because of the box ways. I however would not run the Fadal at 400 ipm where I would run the Mazak there. The control is better IMHO and rapids seals the deal for me again my opinion.

It really depends on which Mazak you're using. An FJV is going to be infinitely more stable than an AJV. I know the VTCs I'm running now are much better than the VQCs I've run in the past.
