extend/shorten contour tool paths

In the Lead in lead out parameter page I have been trying to us the extend/shorten contour with no luck. Has anybody had the same problem or know what I am doing wrong?

I have no problem in lathe but can't get it to work in mill.

I am trying to avoid hitting a wall while machining the contour of another surface with a radius cutter that is lower. I want to shorten the countour by the dia of the tool so it doesn't hit the wall. I click on it and it lights up to use the feature and I put the information in and it does nothing.

Do you have gouge check on? With the extension on the lead in/out might not fit.

Extend wont work with a ramping tool path.

I have tried it with gouge check on and off. Doesn't make a differance.

Is this a 2D or 3D toolpath? Like Hardmill, I use it daily and have not had a problem. I don't even recall if the option is available with 3D toolpaths (it's been too long), but you mentioned cutting the contour of a surface so I figured I'd ask.

papa, are you enter the tool rad in the percentage box? if so enter it in the box to the right of that one. hth

Sometimes I have to extend the wireframe instead of using the leadin/leadout.
