MCX file extension problems

Has anyone found a way to save a file in X3 down a version to say X2 or X? I seem to have to save all the way down to V9 if I want to open, or send, a file to another user if the file is created in X3 and I want to open it in X2.

 

Hopefully, in the future, the .mcx extension will be changed to something that is version specific.

There is an option button when you click save as. But you can not save the toolpaths to an older version of MC.

There are options to save to V9 and V8 but there are no options to differentiate between the three "X" versions.

 

I find this to be a problem for me.

File-Save As-Options (next to green check mark)- Drop down has X 1 2 3.

When you click save as, save as type will be *.MCX, but there will be an option button right next to the green checkmark button. Select that and then choose 1, 2 or 3.

I missed the part where you said toy can't save toolpaths. That's too bad.

Hindsight being 20-20, they should have considered a format like .MX1,.MX2,.MX3, etc.

Would have given them a few years anywayz.

Yeah too bad about the toolpaths, but I guess it makes sense since there are some different (newer) toolpaths and options in the newer version of MC. For example not sure how they could bring in the highspeed toolpaths into a version that never had highspeed toolpaths.

filename_X2_MR2.mcx(etc.). You need also to know which maintenance version for each save also

You could create a directory as your save version to place the files without having to alter the filename, this structure will show up in your filepaths

ie. ..MC9, ..MCX, ..MCX2, ..MCX3, etc.

 

It will indicate minimum version required to open the file

There is an "Options" button available on many of the different file formats.

 

For example, .STL has an options button that lets you save your STL files in "World Coordinates" or "Current WCS", also lets you set a tolerance...

 

Same for Parasolid files, "options" lets you choose an output version...
