Toolpath like waterline but opposite?

I need a path that is like waterline but cut

up and down.

 

I have a surface model, cavity of a mold.

I want a 1/2" em to cut up and down from the bottom

of the part up .35"

.

.

.

 

 

I used to do this type of path way back in shartcam.

It gave you the option of zigzag and top plane.

 

Does any one know if MC can do this type of path?

 

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

do you mean cut the waterline path, but start at the bottom and not the top? or do you mean a vertical cut?

Surface finish contour???

 

There is a switch to order cuts bottom to top

Jp, contour wont change cut direction will it?

Plunge cutting, so to speak.

Yep, radial would do it for the part you show.

 

Project could do it too, with more control, but it is more work too.

Besides Surface finish > radial, there is Surface rough > radial, and its also available in the Surface High Speed Toolapths under Finishing.

Would a flowline path do it

It would, but it is 10 separate surfaces and a couple

were made with sight backdraft(undercut).

I did try it but it wasn't cutting 100% proper.

Go for surface finish leftover. with 3D collapse. It will do.

I would think you could also use blend for this.

+1 for the blend, you can start top and go down or down and come up. You can also use a point for the center if you wanted to

With Blend you can choose the option to go "Along" (default), or "Across".

 

If you had a chain at the bottom of the cavity and a chain at the top, you could use the "Across" blend method to get the motion you are describing. I would turn off the "Check gap motion for gouge" setting in the Gap Settings dialog box.

 

You could also try a 5 axis Port toolpath set to 3 axis output...

 

The Advanced Multiaxis toolpaths would also give you a lot of control for the shape you've shown, just set the output to 3 axis.

I tried the leftover. I cant get the machine angle

cut up and down in the Z axis. It looks like a

waterline cut? I tried '0' and '90' deg and there is

no change.

 

Any ideas?

MMMM What could you try Oh I know you could try a blend, it'll go up and down (see Colin's post above) should work real good
