Metric Tools

What good is the Metric Checkbox on a tool when it doesn't do anything about the tool size when units are not metric? Does the Library need to be completely modified to work in inches or am I missing something?

I always just convert to decimal and create

metric taps were the hardest for me to get right. Ive got a small tips booklet from Haas, it really has some handy info. It gives the treads/inch of all the metric taps and I put that info in the tool discription. Just give it an RPM and it spits out the right feedrate.

The difference between getting the job done and bitchin' about the job

 

The box is there, it has NEVER worked in my estimation, take your metric tool convert it, save it and call it done. Your metric tool is now saved with inch values.

 

Elegant, perhaps not but it gets the job done and after all isn't THAT what this forum is ALL about?

I use it to define taps. If you check taht box, you get to enter the pitch instead of the thread per inces in the tool definition page. Other than that, I have never used it.

Getting the job done is great, but fixing something that does not work should not be ignored. If the feature does not work, it just confuses users and therefore should be fixed or removed.
