total okuma noob here.

have a number of questions regarding this machine that i'm just starting to mess with.

why start on a 2 axis when you can jump right into a Mill-turn?

1. can programming and operation manuals be had from okuma (or anywhere) on decade+ old machine? i have nothing. i've tried to get some info from okuma, but no luck so far.

2. trying to figure out how to index the turret as in the video below. control has a few programs for indexing but an air hissing sound is all i get when trying to execute.

on prog:

N0 V7= -31

N1 T300 BA=V7

G04 F3

V7=V7+1

...

.

got it :unworthy:

The turret that can index a tool into the desired angular

position is also available (B-axis 1° pitch indexing function or B-axis 1/1000° pitch indexing function).

not sure if they are saying indexing can be done, or can be done with optional machine upgrade. Japanese to English. :no haha

ok this appears to be a .001° b axis! as I'm just barley getting this up and running, not sure if it's an indexer or contouring. interesting thing is when the turret positions for a tool change, it automatically does a unidirectional positioning by passing the final position then coming back. cool machine.

what quantity is "m"? megabytes/meters?

aah yes, indexing. not surprising considering it's advanced age. :turned:

128k or 256k (640m) and no apparent DNC options. but it does have "TAPE DATA IN/OUT o". must be talking about it's 3.5floppy.

there is a special Okuma format for floppies??

The little circle means you have the option, So just as an example from the above line you have B-AXIS 1/1000 and CYCLE TIME CAL but you do not have SEQUENCER ALARM

You cannot DNC from a USB. If you want to DNC you must have either DNC-B for drip feeding or DNC-T for a server. You can read and write programs from the floppy, You can also exchange the floppy for a USB emulator, however the control will still only see this as a floppy drive and the USB will be the same size as the floppy drive originally was. RS232 will work for program transfer only.

On a 7000 control you can steal some extra memory from the system side, I cannot remember the address of the top of my head thought, Maybe HD0 or HD1, take a look through the manual.

i just mentioned that to my 30yr experienced okuma technician.

he said, and i quote:

"I hate people like you"

"no you can't"

in that order

so, here is a fun question:

how would one program cylinder head porting on a machine like this using C, Y, Z, X interpolated with B indexed? since the head must be retracted home to index B, how would you handle this? have the post handle the homing and reposition or a toolpath op to do it? would Mastercam be a good choice?

thanks to everyone posting

I dont remember exactly how but cant you load a program into the machine memory & do a .sdf program with pselect MD0:test.min(or ssb)? I cant recall but I did this on a 5020M & ran a massive elipse program from the BB0(or BB1) I also think the programs needed to be a certain size to load into the auto memory (320k?) assuming that is what free space there is in the main memory. The system side was huge. I think the 5000's used BB0/BB1, others used HD0/HD1, MD0/MD1

Someone here has a 7000 & can verify.

Good luck!

Hello All,

I'm using OKUMA MACTURN 30 OSP7000L,

I'm totally a beginner in using CNC Machine.

I'm having a trouble where my tailstock doesn't push the center out when I step on the pedal.

The machine doesn't show any alarm, so I don't know what to do.

Is there any MDI program to move the center towards the workpiece?

Regards,

The piston may also be stuck if it doesn't get used often. I've had this happen on my Puma lathe. I usually spray it with wd-40 and turn up the the pressure to break it free. Works just fine after that first time. I usually use the tailstock 1-2X per year Max, so it sits idle a lot and I can't get the floor to do the routine maintenance properly. The machine also isn't run very often either.
