I've been running 40 to 60 meg files on our new Okuma 5X HMC

The machine runs Windows, using Wordpad as the file editor.

Wordpad chokes on files that big and my Okuma dealer referred me to this free

CNC editor/simulator

Has anyone here tried it?

Can't help with the simulator, but under the \Mastercam root install directory\common\Editors\Pfe is the pfe "programmers file editor" which can be copied to another computer and is more than capable of handling large files.

It looked a little hinky to me too.

Glad I didn't download anything from it

My A/V didn't alert me to anything when I was on the main page.

I use and editor called Discriminator for some of my work. Dont know how well it would handle files of your size nor have I tracked how big of files I have loaded into it but have had no issues with performance.

It has some cool features including wire frame back plot.

 

it is very inexpensive and you can trial it for free.

Cimco Editor isn't an option?

 

If it's just your text editor that's the problem there are some free ones out there, check out Open Office, they have a wordpad equivalent.

Why not Cimco editor sense Mastercam users get a large discount on the pro version that does backplot.of the code and can handle large files.

we have a 5 seat network license of CimcoEdit Pro.. and that's how we're going to go.

I just wondered if anyone had experience with that simulator.. It looked too good to be true...

Doesn't the Okuma file editor on the control handle the large files? Out of curiosity, why are you needing to use an external editor?

HSMExpress comes with an editor capable backplotting. free software with registration.

not sure why paid MC doesn't include it.

the files are 40 to 60 meg and Wordpad just sits there doing nothing when you try to edit a file

I would put a computer next to the machine and edit the code on that, Machines are expensive and good at running code, Computers are cheap and they are good at editing code, Just my 2 cents worth

 

Share the MD1 folder on the machine, Create a mapped drive on the computer and link it to MD1 on the machine
