Missing something I had in other software.

When one creates a toolpath, the dialog comes up and when you click on tool it lists the tools already used in the program.

Is there a way to populate this list with out having to select from a tool db?

When using other software, I could open a tool db, click a check box and "import" said tools into the file. For example, I have several families of parts that all get the same treatment, I'd like to populate the tool list once so I only have to go into a tool db once and save myself a few clicks on every op. The tools would already be there for the pickin.

Possible?

Right click on a finished part Import / export operations  (Name it , you'll get the hang of it)

With the next similar new part Right click Import / export operation and it come right in.

Red ex to get out of the import or you will bring in the same paths twice...you'll get the hang of it..

I think this is what your looking for.

Not to diminish the help, but I do that quite often. I usually save a template file so all I do is import solid/geo and roll. However, let's say the ops would not be good for the next part but I know what's in the magazine and want to use those tools again. I'd like to start my first op and have that list full without having to create multiple ops or click on select tool every time, just look at the list and pick it.

I'm talking specifically about the tool list. Say I have a file with some 300 ops and a full tool list of used tools, all I want is the tool list, not the ops. Any way to do that?

Hmmm...save one of your files that has the toolpaths and tools under whatever filename you want....say tools.mcx9.

Then delete all your geometry and operations. (Dont use the dynamite stick to delete your operations, as this deletes the tools also) Resave file...all the tools should still be saved with the file.

Try this.

Start a new part file, and add your geometry (import, create, ect.). When you are ready to start machining, load your Machine Definition.

Go into the Machine Group Properties > and pick the "Files" tab.

Under "Tool Library", press the "select file" button. (looks like an open folder.) When the dialog box comes up, change the "file type" drop down to the second option. This filter will let you select almost any type of Mastercam file to be your library. (including previous versions of Mastercam, so you can grab an older file if you want.)

Setting your Tool Library to reference your previously programmed file will give you access to all the tools that were used in that previous program.

Now, when you go and program a new toolpath, just make sure the "show library tools" check box is turned on on the "Tool" page.

That should be all you have to do to get access to the tools in your tool carousel...
