  1. Thanks to some help from QC at Mastercam I figured out it's a bug... Apparently the "new" coolant options don't work correctly and it's impossible to get the coolant setting to "stick" until you select the check box shown in the attached pic.
  2. Hello everyone, Brand new Mastercam Lathe user here. I am trying to set up my tool library. I cannot get the coolant to "stick" in my tool library. I want to get the library set up basically the same way I run my Milling tools. Speed, Feed, coolant data all comes "from tool". I make the changes, save the tool database, close Mastercam, re-open Mastercam... Then when I open up the tool database my coolant command is gone... there is no coolant setting saved in the tool. WTF? Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this issue
  3. We use this stuff pretty regularly here. Works great. I don't think it shrinks at all and there is no release agent needed. http://www.flexbar.c...KIT-10p4584.htm
  4. HTM01, that does not look too bad... They are not looking for a tremendous amount of detail... Can you make surfaces like you pictured above? I changed my notification settings... Looks like I'm getting them now.
  5. Hi Jay! Thanks for taking a look. I was actually hoping for something with 3-D "puffed up" features like the attached pic. I do understand that I am asking for a lot from that tiny picture... And yes, I'd like to have the line geometry you created and also the puffed up version if you are able to create it. I was also hoping that the sun would show up in the pic too but it didn't seem to come through in the geometry you showed above... Sorry for the delay in my response... For some reason I never get notifications about replies on this forum.
  6. Hello everyone, Last year one of my closest friends was killed in a car accident. He was a welder and a metal worker and it has been decided that his grave stone should be something special. It will be a metal plaque attached to his stone. I have been assigned the task of designing and machining the plaque. Most of this will be no problem for me but one of the features they are asking for is a picture to be included on the plaque. I do not have Mastercam Art here and I wonder if anybody would be willing to mess around with the picture to see what can be done in Mastercam Art. Pic is attached... Unfortunately the pic is very small. Must have been from a cell phone... Any and all feedback or assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Guys, if he's looking for a PC for under $1500 he's obviously not looking for maximum performance on huge files. I have had a Windows 7 64 bit PC running a GTX560 Ti graphics card for quite a while and have no problems with it. We just ordered a new PC for $810 delivered. It's coming from Cyberpower PC. It will be mostly used for Mill Level 1 and Wire programming with Mastercam but I am confident that it will do just fine on most Mill Level 3 stuff as well since we have another similarly configured PC in the shop already. I really like Cyberpower because their website makes it extremely easy to configure a new PC with whatever I want. *BASE_PRICE: [+699] BLUETOOTH: None CAS: Raidmax Viper Mid-Tower Gaming Case w/ 1x USB 3.0 Port & Side Window Panel (Black Color) CASUPGRADE: None CD: 24X Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive (BLACK COLOR) CD2: None COOLANT: Standard Coolant CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3470 3.20 GHz 6MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1155 CS_FAN: Default case fans ENGRAVING: None FA_HDD: None FAN: Intel Certified CPU Fan & Heatsink [-20] FLASHMEDIA: INTERNAL 12in1 Flash Media Reader/Writer [+10] (BLACK COLOR) FREEBIE_MB: None GLASSES: None HDD: 1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive) HDD2: None IEEE_CARD: None IUSB: Built-in USB 2.0 Ports KEYBOARD: (Keyboard & Mouse Combo) Logitech MK200 USB Keyboard & Mouse Combo [+16] MB_SRT: None MEMORY: 8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair or Major Brand) MONITOR: None MONITOR2: None MONITOR3: None MOTHERBOARD: [CrossFireX] ASUS P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ IRST, Lucid Virtu MVP, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, 2x PCIe x16 (1 Gen3, 1 Gen2), 2x PCIe x1 & 3 PCI (Extreme OC Certified) [+6] MOUSE: None [+0] NETWORK: Onboard Gigabit LAN Network OS: Microsoft® Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit Edition) OVERCLOCK: No Overclocking POWERSUPPLY: 500 Watts - Corsair CX500 V2 80 Plus Certified Power Supply [+24] RUSH: NO; READY TO SHIP IN 5~10 BUSINESS DAYS SERVICE: STANDARD WARRANTY: 3-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY PLUS LIFE-TIME TECHNICAL SUPPORT SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO SPEAKERS: None TEMP: None TUNING: None TVRC: None USB: None USBFLASH: None USBHD: None USBX: None VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 2GB 16X PCIe Video Card (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA) VIDEO2: None VIDEO3: None WNC: None _PRICE: (+735) _view_: {153B21DE-19BB-48BB-B198-B06C1E68FC77} _load_: 9/6/2012 4:50:43 AM
  8. I had an install error on 2 machines here. One was XP 32 bit and the other was Vista 64 bit. In both cases I was able to successfully install by first uninstalling X6, re-installing X6, and then adding the MU1 patch.
  9. You guys are correct that it does snap if the cursor stays inside the tick marks. Thanks for pointing it out. Unfortunately that doesn't completely resolve the issue though. On a solid model with lots of features the auto cursor will snap to the solid features instead of the tick marks. Ever since Dynamic WCS was introduced I've placed the cursor way outside the tick marks to ensure there was no accidental snapping to part model features.
  10. Can somebody please check out Dynamic Planes in X6MU1 and see if you're getting the same problem I see here? I try to create a new Dynamic Plane and the rotation is not what I want so I start grabbing the gnomon and rotating it around as necessary and everything *appears* to be working correctly but after I'm done rotating I am seeing that instead of "snapping" to 15° increments like I've chosen in my settings the actual cursor position is used so for example if I'm trying to rotate 90° I'll end up with something like 89.783° which *looks* OK but obviously will cause issues. There is a workaround... I can just key in 90° to get accurate rotations but really the snapping should be fixed... Too bad this wasn't taken care of after I reported it back in January. I'm shocked.
  11. My thoughts, exactly. That and I wonder if the software might need some serious re-writing to correct whatever shortcomings are leading to the issues where they fix one problem but that fix breaks 2 other things... If that is what will be necessary it's no surprise they'd be trying to avoid such a huge undertaking by plugging along the same as they always have - fixing what they can and ignoring the root of the issue.
  12. I think I'm in the same position as Wes. Just don't have time for it anymore. When I first started beta testing several years ago I thought I was going to change the world and get a bunch of lingering problems addressed but my enthusiasm is gone and many of those lingering issues are still here. I think that the beta crew should get a nearly bulletproof product and occasionally have to report something. Unfortunately it seems like they can't fix or improve anything in the software without breaking 10 other things so Beta Testers and the QC department are overwhelmed.
  13. In addition to some beta versions I did try the production release of X6. X6 wire was completely unusable on the first job I tested. It was a simple 4 axis cut and for some reason X6 was not able to produce a usable toolpath. Crazy stuff like cutting on the wrong side of the chain, etc... The same job works fine in X4 Wire... The bug has been logged but it's too late. I'm already pissed. Maybe by X7 I'll be over it or better yet maybe we'll be using something else by then.
  14. Dude, I am a beta tester. What makes you think I haven't used several revisions of X6 already? Unfortunately every time I give it a try it takes days to get all the kinks worked out. I have work to do here and when they continually release crap to the general public that isn't even meeting my specifications of what a BETA version should be ummm yeah, I'm frustrated. The inmates are running the asylum over at CNC Software and I'm tired of it. I wasn't going to get all that nasty but I am not some mindless sheep and I resent the implication.
  15. I am so sick of this. I'm not even going to bother with X6MU1. X4 is still working fine... What a shameful waste of money paying for maintenance has been the last 2 years.
  16. I have current maintenance and I'm still running X4. I gave X6 an honest try but the first X6 Wire job I programmed had major issues which were verified by QC. Not really sure why we keep paying that maintenance bill. Definitely agree with the others who are frustrated here.
  17. After a quick look at the machine dimensions I have to believe that our rigger could twist that machine through a 119.5" door since the back of the machine is widest at the center and the front of the machine is widest at the ends (keyboard and control panel). I'd print out the machine dimensions and a sketch of the door dimensions and ask the rigger what they think.
  18. We've had great luck with our local guy. Colorado Industrial has done excellent work on everything we've sent (regrinding and custom tools, mostly carbide) and their prices have been very reasonable. The name is misleading though. They're located in NE Connecticut.
  19. Doc: You're just not thinking fourth dimensionally!
  20. 2. Yes, if you use an MDI command like G43 H1 Z2.0 the machine will position there when you execute it then you can jog around with the correct tool height displayed. 3. We used to DNC with ours all the time. I don't recall the exact procedure but it can be done.
  21. I don't know Charmilles wire EDMs at all but if you want a nice finish with no blemishes you should be using more than one pass. 1 Rough and 3 Skims is what I normally use. Another thing that comes to mind would be that if you're drilling a "start hole" very close to the finished wire contour size and the wire never gets buried in the steel (i.e. you're not dropping a slug) you need to turn down the flushing pressure because full flush without burying the wire=wire bouncing around and leaving blemishes on the part. What size is your start hole and what size is the finish wire contour ?
  22. I have access to MC Wire and a Fanuc 1IB machine so if any further issues arise I may be able to help.
