  1. In my experience, you have to set your T/C planes up normal to the vector of the hole then use the threadmill toolpath and select the linearize helix option so it is not trying to output a circle statement.
  2. I never say it enough but you guys are really awesome... or maybe I never said it. I have cut very little Ti(Or for that matter much hard metal of any type) and I feel like a kid in a candy factory when I read threads like this.
  3. You only needed to drag the .config FILE out. Everything should stay put in that folder. If you made a backup of the config folder, put it back in, take the .config file out and try again.
  4. I would guess a corrupt surface. Are you driving the solid model or surfaces extracted from the solid?
  5. Basically if it the cutter has to generate a sharp corner then the vector of the cutter in the toolpath has to match the vector of the edge when it cuts around it. Depending on what geometry you are driving and preference, there are different ways to sync the upper and lower control curves. I prefer to use wireframe upper and lower control curves with the same number of entities in each chain then use the sync by entity option. I spend quite a bit of time making sure my geometry is clean though using this method.
  6. I am assuming you don't have a 5-axis or 5-axis Mastercam? The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is old school... offset the surface half the diameter of the cutter, create flowlines on it and drive the flowline geometry with a contour toolpath. It's been a long time since I did anything like that though...Think I was using MC6

  8. In the past if I ever wanted to force something similar I would have to do it with the toolpath. Now that I know more about the post we are using I could do it in there, unfortunately it isn't a Mastercam post. It would be a nasty macro I imagine too. The dirty workaround... Skew your drive geometry a tiny amount in the orientation that will force a B .001 movement and drive it with a multiaxis toolpath?
  9. It's been a long time since MC 9, but in ~Create ~curve ~project you should be able to toggle between normal to a surface or a view. View projects normal to whatever your c-plane is set to and surface projects normal to the surface you select.
  10. There is no perfect way for this that I know of. You would have to consider the Acc/Dec settings, 5-axis feedrates, etc. on the machine to get extremely accurate. AFAIK Mastercam does not have that capability, I have always used it as an approximation. I would guess the ones that are close involve motion that does not have alot of drastic direction changes on toolpaths or multiaxis toolpaths.
  11. If your only intention is to draw prints or produce a 3d model, then I would not suggest going with Mastercam. Mastercam is best suited for machining parts. IMO you would be better off with a software aimed at generating CAD data if that is all you will be doing. If you are going to be programming parts then yes Mastercam would be a good choice with the ability to produce drawings and such as well. My 2 cents.
  12. A radius on the EM will give you some downforce as well, but not as much as a reverse helix. Another thing you can do is leave more material on the floor during rough, start in the middle, and melt out( semi-finish/ finish/step out radially/semi-finish/finish/step out radial/etc.) similar to the way you would melt down a flange. CNCPRO Most aluminum can be cut without a limit to RPM. We run a .500 carbide at 30,000 RPM and I know there are machine that go even faster. It is extremely forgiving if its held in a rigid state.

    Yes, you can customize your toolbars and add the macro manager to an existing toolbar or make a new one.
  14. 3 flute carbide combination drill/reamers. There are a few places that make them, but they are certainly not wildly popular because if you don't run them at the proper speeds and feeds they really suck.
  15. 3 flute dreamers in aluminum will hit that kind of tolerance. A tighter tolerance than that is iffy though. I do NOT know that it would produce a 32 finish. IF you could get it tested and get that kind of finish it would smoke through them. They cruise pretty fast with no chip break necessary at a 1 inch depth if your spindle can handle the load of that diameter.
  16. I have This one which has two thumb buttons plus an additional one on the top. The wheel is programmable as well. I also had a microsoft one previously, but I like the logitech better. There may be some glitchy little things with Mastercam and it I read about once, but I rarely have problems. You have to install the software with it so you can assign whatever key you want to the buttons. HTH
  17. We use a 3rd party post software, but Mastercam posts are certainly competant. Regardless, you would have to learn the mastercam post language or a 3rd party language to get the EXACT code you want. The primary reason we use a 3rd party post is because it supports many different CAM systems. The other benefits of 3rd part would probably not justify the cost IMO.
  18. What kind of machine/ control? Most of the ones I deal with(Fanuc) are as follows: G2=clockwise G3=counter cw The I is typically the deviation in X from the start point to the center of the circle. The J is typically the deviation in Y from the start point to the center of the circle. Different controls require differnt things though. Your best bet for machine specifics is to grab a programming manual for the machine and read the section on circle interpolation.

  20. Also make sure it does not snap to the midpoint, endpoint, quadrant, or center of the arc when you pick it.
  21. The only circumstance I personally know of that would generate a new toolpath is a transform toolpath.
  22. What Sheffer said. If you can, I would suggest contacting the tech support for the machine. Changing parameters is dangerous if you are not sure what is what. That being said... I just was looking at this with a Fanuc 15i. Pull out the parameter book and look up the feedrate parameters. In the 15i it was 1400 series, but 16m may be different. Look for a LRP Data type. This tells it to either rapid each axis at max velocity or linearize rapid motion. HTH

  24. Trimming to curves worked best in V9 IMO. k,b,d is keep, blank, or dispose the parent surface. I would go with blank. Make sure your curves extend past the edge of the surface for best results and you may have to project the curve to the surface in order for it to work. HTH
