  1. Many thanks to all who chimed in. I have done a file compare, and the code is very different. I cannot find any differences in the Control def, there are no "R's" or anything that looks suspicious. If something changed it must be pretty obscure, because I updated to X6 as instructed. Are there any specific areas in the Control def (or Machine def) that are known to have issues when updated?
  2. Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Bottom line is the same program that failed in X6 worked in X5. I did not change a thing. I would think that rules out machine error. I checked the Control Def. and it is the same.
  3. I ran two similar programs without a hitch. I was running a .04 stepover, I had to increase it in order to attach the file here. It ran a huge amount of code before it screwed up. All the dimensions were good, except for the overcuts, so it wasn't an offset issue.
  4. It bumped into the outer pocket slightly (.06 inch), then into one of the bosses, then again into the outer pocket at which point the tool broke, so I'm not sure how far it was going to go. I tried to check the code, but I have no evidence that anything is wrong with the machine. Also, the same program ran fine in X5 today.
  5. I glitched an expensive copper piece yesterday using X6. I downloaded it Monday and quickly liked the much faster Verify. Ran 2 programs OK, then the Toolpath and verify looked good, but it overcut in at least 3 places. Sorry if this was touched on in another thread. this is on a Toshiba laptop with Win 7, 64 bit. i7 processor 2D HST SCREWUP.MCX-6
  6. When I change the direction of a chain, does the comp really need to switch to "right"?? Just sayin....
  7. What is the material? I have done this with a homemade boring bar and a cemented carbide lathe bit, although not that long. I just milled a slot, drill and tap a couple of set screws on the end of some drill rod. It better have a big diameter. I used .001 stepover if I recall. Flood coolant worked fine.
  8. OK, this just became hot. Jack, how do I get the rest of the port without overcutting? Do I have to transform this outward with small increments? There must be a better way, but I'm totally clueless here.
  9. Thanks guys. Sorry, been away from the computer for a couple of days. We'll give these a shot.
  10. We would like to machine around the 3 bosses and the port on a horizontal. There is a .062 max radius around the port where it hits the drive surface. We tried rotary 4 axis from the multiaxis menu but it only accepts ball endmills. We would like to use a .750 bull or something to that effect. Can anyone point us in the right direction? Thanks in advance.
  11. OK, It's now 11/2. Is there new release date for X6?
  12. We have a Niigata SPN63 horizontal. It alarms every time it sees a G93. Is this typically an option you have to buy, or is it just a parameter setting? I just got in recently, and was amazed to see that it had never used inverse time. Thanks in advance.
  13. The setup sheet works, but I'm not getting the Notes 1, 2, and 3. Everything else is good. Nice, concise look.
  14. A customer sent some DXF files, and the larger ones produced the message "entity identifier in save file too long". The smaller files opened fine. Anyone run across this?
  15. I just sent in a request for multi-threading to QC. Anyone else with this need.....please! Thanks everyone for the input.
  16. No luck with Escape. Maybe I'm holding my finger wrong. Can't seem to remember to save it first!
  17. Bump. If you want to bail out or cancel a toolpath generation that is taking too long, or not responding, is there a way out other than shutting down MC?
  18. Definitely true. Also the size will change on you overnight, might have something to do with the coolant.
  19. What toolpath are you talking about? I have found it is usually better to create a point than to use the arc center.
  20. Thanks to all for the help. I get the knucklehead of the week award. My laptop has switchable graphics, and for some reason it was using onboard graphics. I have no idea why it would change, maybe one of the tech masters here could help me acquire a clue!
  21. Nice work, Sherlock! Thanks but I am well aware of the moves/step and moves refresh feature. I also am aware that you can set it to Turbo, but then you can't see the tool. No, I do not have a ton of points. I always use the arc filter. Thanks anyway.
