without playing "reamer roulette" on expensive parts. At least it keeps the day exciting.
We do the same with endmills here. We just grind down the flutes on a Dekel tool grinder.

If it is only a upper spindle machine MC works very well with a nice post. If it has a lower turret, MC cannot efficiently place wait/sync codes wich really slows down the process.
Mike
Like JP said. Mastercam is great in any lathe app. when there are no multiple turrets. It runs out of steam because it cannot do sync codes or real simulations. But if I'm correct, the Kitamura doesn't have multi turrets and is more of a 5axis mill w/ turning. So, MC would be my choice for that. MC would be my last choice for swiss though.

I have a Daewoo with Fanuc 18itb controller. The M codes I use are
m203 forward sync
m204 reverse sync
m205 sync stop
m206 two spindle control
Chris, for future reference, M213 syncs spindles at the same encoder position. There is a parameter that tells it was position to sync at. I just have my post put out M213 for everything.

If anyone is intrested in seeing what I did I am more than glad to share it. I want to better the profession and if I got something that will help you I want to share it. More people need to have this attitude. I learned everything I know by asking questions and a lot of people were kind enough to help me out. I just try to pay it forward.
Mike
I've got a really nice post from inhouse that gets me perfect code for everything accept the wait/sync codes wich I put in using manual inputs and change at point. If you want full mill/turn support. MC might not be for you at the moment. But as Billy Joel says, I'm still keepin the faith.

you should contact your reseller to see what is availble for that specific machine.
I would spend some money to get an already proven post for the machine. After spending that kind of money whats another few dollars to start making parts right away.
Mike
I didn't realize how many work arounds I use until I started teaching others here mill turn. They ask "How come you have to do it this way". I tell them to ask cnc software.
Mike
With all the time you'll end up spending I would just pony up and pay in-house for a machine specific post. It might cost a few pennies but you will be makin chips. Besides that post should be pretty simple and no matter what type machine they should have one very close already.
Mike
I agree with Ron. Our mill turns have special cycles that sync the milling spindle amd the turning spindle just like a hobbing machine. Without this your best bet would be to index with a form cutter.

Since Brett left In-House I am not sure who is the Post person to talk to. This is not good news. I remember when we first started up with MC a big question was the status of multi turret mill turn programing. I was prommised X would have it. Still waiting. Unfortunately we have so much money invested in multiple seats, custom posts, and programming experience. We are in for the long haul now. When MTT finally comes out it will be like a bonus. A bonus that costs thousands of dollars and was supposed to be included in a maintnence release.

I saw this software at IMTS that did simulated broaching, knurling, shaping and gear hobbing for millturn. I thinks sometime around X5 we'll see some of this in MC lathe. Maybe.
