  1. Thread mill. At this point it would be cheaper. No buildup issues, pitch dia control and cleaner threads. I would be nervous in the service tappin that big in ti. Especially if it's an expensive part. Mike
  2. Also, Instead of creating the other 5 planes. I like to to transform toolpath, and rotate about right wcs 5times at 60deg. just saves having a bunch of different ops. Mike
  3. I would try a nice micro100 boring bar in a little boring head. Its worth a shot.
  4. I'm trying to start up X3 on my laptop and it gets as far as the big mc logo, opens a blank mc window, and then shuts down. A shutdown re-start does not solve this. Problem has only started to occur in the last two days. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike

  6. 250k - 300k all said and done for a similar mori we got quoted. I'd guess okuma would be comperable.
  7. yes, I do it on a regular basis. I usually just do a countour spiral a sub the Y with c. Mike
  8. Oillite does not usually come in barstock as it is cast and then impregnated. So it's usually custom ordered. And be prepared to change your coolant after the job. This stuff is a mess! Here is where we get ours. http://www.isostatic.com/ Mike

  10. Perhaps unroll the helix and use a regular countur path w/ axis substitution. Tilt your T/C plane to get your angles. Mike
  11. Sounds Dangerous. I like it! Mike
  12. I just program as I normaly would in mill except go into rotary axis in the thread mill parameters page and check C Axis. That should convert all your Y moves into C moves. Make sure your T/C planes are set right. Mike

  14. Hello All, Does anyone here have any experience lapping copper? I have to lap in a bunch of bores and am looking for recommendations on grit/compound/technique. Thanks, Mike
  15. Thread mill. Eliminate reaming op. Mike
  16. Yes Ron, Shop is AC'd between 70-75 deg. Thanks, Mike
  17. Make sure to turn on "Use stock as outer boundary" on the groove shape parameters page. Mike
  18. Hello All, We are having a hard time holding some tight tolerances during unattended operation. I am pretty sure that the majority of the problem is due to thermal growth of the machine (A rather large mill turn). My question is, who has experience with coolant chillers? What brands, and with what degree of success. Thanks for the help. Mike
  19. Perhaps try a helix bore. Mike
  20. I also have camtasia studio 5. It works pretty well. Mike
  21. You can always draw exactly what you want and contour it with comp turned off. Perhaps taking that true spiral tool path, and saving it as geo. Primitive I know, but you will get what your looking for. Mike
